Keenan had just taken Neveah out the bath and wrapped her in a towel when his phone rang. He lays Neveah on the bed and picks up his phone from the dresser, grabbing her ankle before she could wiggle away and possible pee on his blanket.
"Hello?" He uses his shoulder to hold the phone against his ear as he struggles to grab a diaper from the pack on the floor .
"Yes Keenan, it's officer Crawford."
"Wassup officer?" Keenan asks, trying to wrestle the towel from Neveah who thinks it's funny to hold it in her mouth and play tug of war with him.
"We found Aubrey,"
Keenan lets the towel go and it falls over Neveah's face, making her crack up with laughter. He moves the towel off her face then grips the phone and presses it against his ear to make sure he heard Officer Crawford correctly. "Wait, you found her? Where?"
Officer Crawford sighs, "That's the thing, we can't give you information about her where abouts."
"Excuse me?" He exclaims, "We've been searching for Aubrey for nearly two and a half weeks and you're telling me you can't tell me where yall finally found her? What kind of bull is that?"
"If the missing person is found unharmed, in good health and was not kidnapped, they have a right to request that their location be confidential."
It hurts Keenan to know that Aubrey didn't want to be found and now that she is, she still doesn't want him to know where she is. "Well is she ok? What's going on?"
"She's fine, she's actually in great condition. She just..." He trails off searching for his next words. "She needs time to herself. But officers will check in with her every now and then just to make sure she's ok."
Keenan shakes his head, "So I can't see her, can I call her?"
"I'll talk to her about it, but it's up to her whether she wants to talk to you or not."
"I can't believe this..." He rubs the back of his neck. "I'm glad you found her and I can't thank you enough for your continuous efforts."
"You're welcome," Officer Crawford replies. "The case isn't closed however, we still want to talk with Aubrey and clear up some things. She is on suicide watch so you don't have to worry about that either. But in the meantime, you should tell her family she's been found and is safe. I'm sure the press will be all over this soon."
"Ok, thank you for telling me."
"You're welcome, have a good day Keenan, get some rest."
Keenan hangs up the phone and just sits there staring at the wall. Aubrey has been found. His weeks of worrying are finally over. But the fact that she doesn't want to see him is worrisome. She may be found, but without seeing her it's like she's still missing.
Picking up his phone again, he dials her aunt's number and waits for her to answer.
"Hello?"
"They found her, they found Aubrey!"
"They did!? Thank the Lord, oh my gosh, where did they find her? When is she coming home?"
"Yeah about that...they can't tell me where she is because she doesn't want anyone to know yet."
Her aunt is quiet for a few minutes and he thinks that the call might have gotten disconnected until he hears her breathing. "What?"
"She doesn't want anyone to know where she is or where she's been. She has a right to keep that info under wraps until she's ready to tell us. Officer Crawford said he'll ask her if she wants to call us but I wouldn't get my hopes up."
