Shaun cracks his eyes open and looks at the time on his phone. The digits show 12:15 which means he slept through the entire morning. This isn't surprising seen as how he didnt get home from the party until 3am. Technically it ended at 2 but Tim O'neal bet him he could beat him in a game of 2k and that was a bet he just couldn't pass up. Of course he had to sneak in his house and tip toe up the stairs to avoid a lecture from his parents, but the deep sleep he fell into was worth it.
He quickly sends Ty a text. "What we getting into today?" Tossing his phone to the side, he stretches and heads to the bathroom to brush his teeth and take a shower. He smells like pure sweat from the party and from sweating in his sleep. His parents need to invest in some a/c in his room because that little fan isn't cutting it.
After freshening up, he walks back to his room with his towel wrapped around his waist feeling nice and clean. He checks his phone to see a response from Ty.
"Hanging with Talia. We can do something later."
He rolls his eyes. He didnt ask about later, he wants to do something now. He sends the same text to Malcolm before putting on some lotion and getting dressed in cargo shorts and a black shirt. His phone vibrates and he snatches it up.
"Going to the movies with Miranda. You can come if you want."
And be the third wheel? Shaun thinks with a scrunched up face. He'd rather not. "Nah I'm straight."
Lastly he text Corey, hoping that he doesn't have plans. It's not like he has a girlfriend so he should be free. Corey replies a minute later and Shaun glares at the response. "Working until four thirty."
"Damn, it's summer break and you already slaving?" Shaun replies.
"Gotta make that dough." Corey text back. Shaun snorts at his Dunkin Donuts pun and puts his phone in his pocket. He sits on his bed and puts on a pair of Jordans, trying to figure out what he's going to do today. All his friends are busy so it's not like they can link up. Sometimes he really wishes that Ty and Malcolm were still single, they could hang like they used to and go down to the basketball courts to flex for some girls. But he knows that Talia makes Ty happy and Miranda is perfect for Malcolm. He's happy for them of course, he just wishes things were like the old days.
"Finally up?" His mom asks when he walks into the kitchen.
"Yeah, I was dead tired. That's the best sleep I've gotten in a long time. School was messing me up." He says, kissing her on the cheek. "Where's pops?"
"On his way to work." She tells him. "What are you doing today?"
"I don't know yet. Maybe go down the park and play some basketball. All my boys are busy."
"You should be working on your college stuff." His mother suggest.
Shaun tenses. He honestly hates college talk because he's not sure if he even wants to go. He finally left high school, just to turn around and do more schooling. To him it seems like a waste of time and people make it out to seem like if you don't attend college then you're going to be flipping burgers at McDonalds. College isn't everything, to Shaun, it just seems like a way for the government to get more money out of low class citizens.
"I'll work on it soon ma." He reassures as he grabs a packet of poptarts from the cabinets.
"Mhm," She purses her lips before going back to her magazine.
Shaun chuckles, "I love you mama."
"Love you too boy." She says flatly and Shaun shrugs. He's applied to a few colleges to make his mom happy, but if it was up to him, he would just take a year off and see how things go. But neither of his parents are going to settle for that. It's either college, or get kicked out. No in between.
