"It's really nice, it's a two bedroom apartment on the west side of town." Aubrey says into the phone. She's on the phone with Keenan telling him all about the apartments she's been searching for while he's out job hunting.
"Price?" Keenan asks.
"Um..expensive." She avoids telling him the price, knowing he's going to blow a gasket. He doesn't want to make their parents pay too much for their apartment so their budget is pretty limited. "Compared to the money we have now, everything is really pricey Keenan."
He says something to somone on the other end before replying. "I know Bre, I just don't want our parents to think we're taking advantage of them. Plus we have to consider rent and down payments and---"
"I know I know." Aubrey sighs and tousels her hair. She exits out of the website she was looking at, forcing herself to just forget about the nice apartment she was viewing. "I'm just excited that we're finally going to have a place of our own. I'm here thinking everything is going to fall right in place but, it's not."
Keenan's silent for a few minutes on the other line. "I'm excited too, but we have to reasonable."
"I know." She softly says again.
"Look we can talk when I get home. Ok? I'm about to go into Target and pick up an application."
Aubrey smiles, "You'd look so cute in a red polo."
"You're so funny." Keenan says sarcastically. "I'll see you when I get home."
"Alright, love you."
"Love you too."
Ending the call, Aubrey tosses her phone to the side and stares at her laptop. She lets out a deep breath and closes it, deciding to give her eyes a break from staring at that screen for the last two and a half hours. Rolling off the bed, she walks over to Neveah's crib and peeks inside. Neveah looks up at her with bright eyes as she tries to get her foot in her mouth.
"How long have you been up Nevy?" Aubrey says to her. Nevy just blinks as Aubrey wrinkles her nose and reaches in to lift her into her arms. Laying her down on the bed, she picks up her diapers and wipes. "Come on stink butt, time you change you."
As she changes her diaper, the doorbell rings. Aubrey quickly wipes Neveah clean and fastens on a new diaper before buttoning her onsie and pulling up her pants. She wraps Neveah in her blanket then heads down the stairs, bouncing her in her arms as she goes. Shuffling over to the door, she swings it open just as the doorbell rings again.
"Ok ok, stop ringing my--" Her sentence dies in her throat as ice laces her veins. Aubrey suddenly wishes she'd never opened the door at all when she recgonizes the tall light skin boy standing on the other side. "What are you doing here?" Are the first words to fly out her mouth.
The boy on the other side of the door only grins. His charming brown eyes and slick white smile nearly paralyzes her. His gaze lands on the bundle in her arms. "So it's true, you did have a baby."
Aubrey's grip on Neveah tightens as she slings her over her shoulder to conceal her face. "H-how did you find me?"
"Believe it or not I actually had a hard time tracking you down. Victoria wouldn't tell me, your mom wouldn't tell me. I had to go to your old friend Crystal." He says then looks around the neighbrohood. "Connecticut huh? I thought you'd go somewhere more flashy like New York. You always did like to be the center of attention, New York would have gave you just that."
"Why are you here?" Aubrey wills her voice to stay calm.
His eyes gleam with the same charm she fell head over heels in love with and her heart flutters in her chest no matter how hard she didn't want it to. "I've missed you Bre. Haven't you missed me?" His smooth low voice asks.
