"You know what? I'm done, completely done with Shaun." Carson drops her phone into her bag with a huff. "I have called, I have texted, I was even close to sending him freaking snail mail. Do you think he even bothered to respond? No."
Janine rolls her eyes. They've only been at the mall for fifteen minutes and she's been talking non-stop about Shaun the entire time. Janine nods and sips her green tea as they aimlessly stroll through the mall, glancing into store windows and studying people that pass by.
"He posted a picture today in front of the Hollywood sign so if he calls me and gives me the "my phone is broken" crap, I will get on a plane and break his face." Carson continues on. Even though she keeps saying she's done with Shaun, her phone hasn't left her hands once this whole time and she keeps looking at the screen expectantly.
"You know Carson, if a boy hasn't texted or called you back and it's been like a week, then maybe it's a sign that you should just let it go and move on." Janine tells her.
Carson sighs and puts her phone back into her pocket. "Ok, what crawled up your butt and died?"
Janine taps her acrylic nails against her can, wondering if she should actually tell Carson what happened with Keenan. They haven't talked since that day and she's kept it from Carson due to how much she used to rant about no longer loving Keenan and how he was her biggest mistake. They patched up things when she became friends with Aubrey during her pregnancy and now he just complicated the situation all over again.
"You hesitated too long, now you've gotta spill." Carson nudges her and she wanders to the side a little before catching her balance.
"I went over to Keenan's house to check up on him and congratulate him on his new song. I wasn't there very long, maybe about twenty minutes tops. We were talking and laughing with each other just like we used to and then he stopped and stared at me. It wasn't one of those day dreaming stares it was like a stare of admiration. And I know that look anywhere, he used to look at me like that all the time when we dated. Anyway, he asked me to be his date to his sisters wedding and I agreed. Then he kissed me."
"Whoa!" Carson exclaims, grabbing Janine's arm to stop her in her tracks. She turns her so that they're face to face. "Are you serious?" Janine nods her head and Carson's eyes crinkle. "Don't do this again Janine."
"Do what?" She asks confused.
"Fall for Keenan again. I know he may have changed in the last year but he isn't a good guy." Carson says. "He dumped you without warning, he cheated on Sevyn, he supposedly got Aubrey pregnant. Just because it turns out the baby isn't his doesn't mean we can ignore the fact that he still slept with her when he was with Sevyn. You can not be a rebound for him just because he's lonely."
Janine nods her head and shakes Carson's hands off her shoulders. They start walking again, slower this time. "I know, that's what I told him. He apologized afterwards for kissing me but I left because I felt weird."
"Do you still like him?" Carson wonders.
Janine shakes her head. "No," she says too quickly, then bites her lip. "I don't know. We have a lot of history together."
"Ok and that's fine and all but history is in the past for a reason. Yes you may have had good times but I don't think it's smart to rekindle old flames. Especially with Keenan of all people."
"You talk a lot of game but you're chasing after Shaun of all people. Shaun Baker, the notorious player of the whole state probably. He's slept with most of the girls at school...twice. He's never had a girlfriend and lets be honest, without basketball he isn't making it very far in life."
