"Hi baby te extraño tanto!"
Ty scrunches up his face, "Slow down with all that Spanish, Dora didn't teach me all that yet."
"Sorry," Talia laughs. "I said I miss you so much."
"I miss you too, it's boring here without you." He pouts, sitting on the front porch and watching the passing cars go by.
Talia scoffs in disbelief, "Yeah right, stop lying. You know you're having the time of your life."
"Alright fine, Cali is amazing man. Palm trees, sunny days, and all this west coast food is about to make me blow up." He says. "But what about you? Have you gotten in touch with your roots?"
"Puerto Rico is beautiful, I wish you were here with me. It's nice to get out the states and breath some fresh air. The water at the beaches are crystal clear, you can't get anything like it in the states I swear. And the food, don't even get me started. Real guava, papaya, mofongo, yucca. If I could bring you some back I would. Ugh, I love it here." She gushes dreamily.
Ty smiles, her voice makes him miss her even more. "The way you're talking makes it sound like you want to stay forever."
"Nah, not forever. I'd miss you too much." She replies.
He licks his lips, one question burning in the back of his mind. "What about college? You're going to be here on the west coast and I'm going to be on the east, It's going to feel like you're in Puerto Rico while I'm in the states."
Talia's quiet for a moment before speaking. "I believe in us, and I think we can work things out."
"That's what I like to hear." Ty says. "How's yo fam doing?"
"They're good, excited to be in Puerto Rico. My grandmother has been cooking up a storm, she claims I'm too skinny."
"Good, keep that ass fat."
"Hmm, all the more reason for me to flaunt around in my bathing suit."
Ty can just see the sly smirk on her face. "Don't play with me Talia."
"What? It's hot here, I can't wear a bathing suit? Shorts, crop tops, bandueas..."
"Talia, don't make me reach through this phone." He threatens. "Matter fact, send me a picture every day of what you're wearing. And don't send me no old pictures either cuz ima tell you to do some unique poses to make sure they're recent."
She bursts out laughing, "Whatever big head."
"Whatchu wearing right now?" He asks.
"Nothing."
His eyebrows shoot upwards, "Excuse me?"
"I just got out the shower and decided to call you before I head out." Talia says.
"Can I get a picture?"
"No," She snaps. "I'll see you in a few weeks though, ok? I have to go before nana leaves me again. Te amo, baby!"
"Have fun, I love you too." He says, sad she has to go. Talia makes a kissing noise through the phone before hanging up. The dial tone sounds in his ear for a few moments as he stares off into space before finally hanging up.
