"She won't even look at me." Kat sighs after running into Monica upstairs, who quickly turned on her heels and retreated back into Ty's room and slammed the door shut. Kat leans against the counter and looks at Sevyn hopelessly. She barely slept at all last night and her appearance clearly shows it. Her eyes are puffy and red, her clothes look sloppy like she just finished rolling around in them, and her face is pale like she's sick.
"I wouldn't look at you either after what you did." Sevyn says truthfully as she makes herself a bowl of cereal.
Kat wears a sheepish expression. "I just want to talk to her. Maybe I can explain myself. She didnt really give me a chance to last night."
"Have you ever been cheated on Kat?" Sevyn asks and she shakes her head no. "Well let me break it down for you. When you're cheated on by someone you really care for, it feels like your heart has physically broken. The one person you thought could do no wrong, just shattered your whole perspective. Being cheated on hurts a persons self esteem, it makes them feel like they were only used for entertainment when someone is bored. So yeah, I can see why Monica is mad at you. She's a strong girl with a slick mouth and sassy attitude, but she's a human being. She has feelings and emotions and she can be sensitive. I think people forget that sometimes."
Kat shakes her head and rests it against the fridge. "It was a mistake. We all make mistakes, we're human."
"No, a mistake is tripping and falling on someone. A mistake is accidentally calling a fat person pregnant." Sevyn corrects, "Cheating on someone is not a mistake. You can't mistakenly kiss someone that isn't your significant other. Cheating is something that people try to convince themselves are mistakes so they feel less guilty."
"Well what am I supposed to do?" Kat frowns.
Sevyn shrugs, "I honestly don't know. Everyone is different when it comes to these situations. But I can tell you this: if you're meant to be, you'll be. And if you're not, then you're not."
Sevyn pours some milk into her cereal then sits at the table. She watches Kat stare off into space like she's thinking hard about something. Sevyn doesn't feel any sympathy for Kat, because she deserved all the yelling that Monica did last night. She knows what it feels like to be cheated on, she knows the betrayal and heart break. So she's not going to offer Kat the shoulder she's looking for to cry on, because she simply doesn't deserve it.
"Why did you go to my brother anyway? Why talk to Malcolm about it?" Sevyn wonders.
Kat rubs her arm and shrugs, "I thought he would be the most understanding out of everyone. I thought he could help me."
"Help you do what Kat?" Sevyn snaps. "Our father cheated on our mother and it was the most devastating thing we've ever experienced. We don't condone cheating, my brothers and I would never cheat and we look down on cheaters."
"I get it Sevyn, jeez. Why are you being so cold to me?" Kat's eyes bulge out in confusion.
"You hurt my best friend, I'm on her side more than yours. Other than being Monica's girlfriend, I barely know you." Sevyn knows she's being harsh, but she can't just let Kat's cheating ways slip past her. Monica did the same for her, and now it's her turn to return the favor.
Jackson walks into the kitchen and stops awkwardly between them. "Good morning..."
"What's so good about it?" Kat grumbles before walking out.
Jackson looks at Sevyn and she just puts more cereal into her mouth.
"Girls," Jackson rolls his eyes. "Can't y'all just kiss and make up?"
"It's a best friend thing." Sevyn says, "You wouldn't know anything about that since you have no friends."
Jackson mugs her, "Thats not true, Michael is my best friend."
