The morning after Aubrey's melt down, Janine goes to visit Keenan. She knocks on his door and waits for him to answer. When he does, he stares at her blankly for a minute before getting it together.
"Hi..."
"Hey," Janine greets, partly thrown off by the fact that he's shirtless. "So I know the last time we talked, things got...weird."
"Really weird."
"Yeah, and I'm sorry for running away like that."
"No it's my fault, I shouldn't have kissed you so unexpectedly, I don't know what I was thinking." Keenan shakes his head like he's embarrassed by the whole situation.
"Don't worry about it," Janine waves the thought away. "Are you busy?"
As soon as the words leave her mouth, a horn beeps behind her. She looks over her shoulder to see a jeep pulling into the drive way and a tiny girl is sitting behind the wheel, waving.
"Hey Khelani, I'll be there in a minute." Keenan waves to her then looks at Janine. "I'm actually on my way out. Can we talk later?"
Janine considers saying yes, but quickly changes her mind. "No, we need to talk now." She pushes Keenan into the house then glances back at Khelani before slamming the door. She locks it just as Mrs.Moore comes down the stairs.
"Hi Janine," She says reaching out for a hug. "How are you?"
"I've been good, what about you? You look great by the way!" Janine gushes, taking in her white capris and orange shirt, her hair is in a loose side ponytail.
"I'm doing well, especially since I'm on this cleanse that has me feeling full of energy like I'm your age." She chuckles and pats Janine on the shoulder. "It's nice seeing you again." She says then heads to the kitchen. Janine follows Keenan upstairs.
"Khelani Peters, really? She looks like she's five."
Keenan sucks his teeth, "Can we make this quick?" He asks, entering his room and walking over to his drawers.
"Fine," Janine closes his door. "I talked to Aubrey last night."
"Talked?"
"Yeah, well I talked while she mostly cried."
"About what?"
"I can't tell you that."
Keenan snorts, "I'm not surprised, no one tells me anything anymore."
"The point is, you need to go see her." Janine continues, "She isn't doing well."
"She has Jeremiah," He says his name like its a sickness.
"Jeremiah can't help her."
Keenan pulls on a shirt and smooths out the wrinkles. "And I can?"
"Yes, look I know what went down between y'all was bad but Aubrey is messed up right now. She doesn't look the same, she's all paranoid and jumpy and she doesn't have anyone else to turn to." Janine says.
"And that's my problem because?" Keenan scoffs as he sprays on cologne.
Janine snatches the cologne from his hands and gets into his face. "Because no matter how much you deny it, you still love her." Keenan stares at her with narrowed eyes like he wants to argue but knows he can't. Janine doesn't back down and continues speaking. "You know as well as I do that Aubrey's story doesn't add up. Something's wrong and only you can fix it, if not for Aubrey then for Neveah. Do you really want to leave her in the hands of Jeremiah? He's manipulative and sneaky, Aubrey told you that herself way back when."
