"I haven't heard from her." Janine tells Keenan. He walks back and forth rubbing his temples. He showed up at her house in case Aubrey decided to hide out there, but there's no trace of her.
"What's the big deal?" Janine asks, bouncing Neveah on her hip. "She's probably walking around town just trying to get away from all the drama."
"You don't understand," Keenan stops pacing and looks at her. "Aubrey tried to kill herself last night."
Janine's eyes widen to the size of saucers. "Kill herself?" She whispers, completely in shock. "The stuff online got to her that much?"
"Yes," Keenan answers. "She is under a lot of pressure right now with me being mad at her and everyone finding out the truth. The stuff they're saying on twitter could drive anyone insane and I guess it became too much for her. I found her standing on the window sill, preparing to drop. I grabbed her before she could fall to her death and she was pissed at me, all she kept saying was that she wanted to die and that Neveah deserved better. She was delirious with depression."
"Well why didn't you call an ambulance or check her into the hospital?" Janine asks.
Keenan squeezes his eyes shut and throws his head back, "I don't know. I thought that if I stayed with her over night she would be ok. I didn't think she needed to go the hospital." Now that he thinks about it, bringing in professional would have been a better idea than figuring he could solve everything himself. "This is all my fault. I'm so stupid."
"It's not your fault. You were scared and upset, you weren't thinking right." Janine says. Her stomach is in knots now that she knows about Aubrey's suicide attempt. She lost a cousin to suicide and its scary thinking about losing another person that's close to her to suicide. She looks down at Neveah's round little face as she gurgles and sucks on her fingers. Her big eyes flitter around the room, taking in the new surroundings.
"What are you going to do?" Janine asks him.
"If she doesn't show up by eleven tonight, we're gonna go down to the police station." He replies. "I'm just praying that it doesn't come down to that, and that's she returns to the house tonight. I don't want anything to happen to her."
Janine stands up and walks over to him. With Neveah in one arm, she reaches up and hugs Keenan with her free arm. He wraps his arms around her waist and holds her tightly, burying his face in her neck. He stands there and lets her pat his back, relieved that he still has her as a friend.
"It's gonna be ok," she whispers to him. "You're going to be fine. You and Neveah are going to be fine."
"I'll believe it when I see it." Keenan says. He knows he's being negative but it's hard not to when his baby mother is missing in action. Neveah makes a noise and he can feel her little hand grabbing at his. He sighs and opens his eyes, staring at the wall behind Janine, lost in thought. He wants to believe in her reassuring hug and hope filled words, but right now, things aren't looking too good.
"Wooo, I'm stuffed." Corey says and plops down on the couch. "And soaked."
They just got in from a day of sight seeing and eating. They wanted to show Corey as much of California as they could today and plan to show him even more tomorrow. After grabbing a bite to eat, they were going to hop on the double decker bus that brings them around the tourists stops, but a heavy rain out their plans on hold and forced them to hurry home.
"That rain literally came out of no where. One minutes its raining, the next minute it's a full on tropical storm." Miranda says, shaking out her wet hair.
"I haven't seen rain in a while." Corey says, "The sun was always shining in Atlanta."
"We didn't get any rain until now. Maybe you're bad luck," Ty says and Corey rolls his eyes at him.
