A sudden buzzing sound makes Keenan jump up out of his sleep. He digs around in his pocket before grabbing his phone and answering the call. "Hello?" He murmurs in to the phone, his voice laced with sleep.
"Keenan, where is Aubrey? I woke up and saw the video that's going around about her but she won't answer my calls. Is she ok?" Janine rambles.
"I took her phone last night so she doesn't have to look at all the nasty stuff people are saying about her." He replies, "She's probably still in bed."
"Wake her up, I want to talk to her."
Keenan groans and throws the blanket off himself. He shuffles to Aubrey's bed, only to find the sheets disheveled and the bed empty. "Hold on, she's probably downstairs." Keenan yawns and walks out the room, he peeks into the bathroom but its empty. Downstairs is quiet, no one in the living room, no one in the kitchen.
"Aubrey? He calls, but theres no response. He looks out the window and sees that her aunts car is still in the driveway along with his. Keenan turns and jogs back upstairs then knocks on her aunt's door a few times.
"Come in," Aunt Janet calls.
Keenan walks inside her room, trying not to show the uneasy feelings brewing in his stomach."Good morning, have you seen Aubrey?"
"I thought she was still asleep." Her aunt says as she takes rollers out her hair. "I didnt hear her get up."
"She's not in the house."
"Oh she probably ran to the grocery store, Neveah's formula was running low."
"Did she walk, cuz our cars are still here."
At this, her aunt's eyebrows furrow. "Walking to the store doesn't sound like something my lazy niece would do. Lets check outside."
Together, they go downstairs and out the front door. They go opposite ways and look all around the yard for Aubrey. She's not in the back or the front, there's no trace of her. "Did you call her?" Aunt Janet asks.
"I can't, I took her phone last night so she wouldn't be up all night looking through her notifications at all the trash people are talking." Keenan scratches the back of his neck. "Dammit, I was supposed to be watching her."
"Well what happened last night?"
"Nothing, we talked a little bit then we fell asleep. She woke up early this morning to use the bathroom and I tried to stay up and wait for her to come back but I fell asleep before she returned." Keenan groans and kicks a near by tree, ignoring the ache in his foot. "Dammit, if something happens to her it's my fault."
"Keenan calm down," Her aunt insists, but he doesn't listen to her. He paces back and forth with his hands on his head, already imagining horrible scenarios in his head. Upstairs, they can hear Neveah's cries coming through the windows and the sound of her strained noises only makes Keenan feel worse. Aunt Janet puts her hands on Keenan's shoulders, "Look, we can't do anything about Aubrey right now. She hasn't been missing for 24 hours so the cops can't help. Right now, we just have to pray and wait for her to come back. Hopefully she comes back tonight."
"And if she doesn't?"
"Then we'll call the police." She replies, "She could've just gone for a walk to clear her head. Lets just think positively and pray for her to return. Ok?"
Keenan nods his head even though he knows he's going to be worried and stressed all day. "Damn it!" he hisses under his breath. He walks away from her aunt and goes back into the house to tend to Neveah. He wants to kick himself for being stupid enough to let Aubrey out of his sight. This is exactly why he can't bring himself to forgive her. She's too unpredictable.
