The rest of the week is filled with tension. Now that Kat and Monica are officially broken up, it's awkward between the group. Monica hasn't been acting the same, she doesn't have as much energy any more and even though she smiles through it, everyone can see she's hurting.
Kat on the other hand, stays in the shadows. When they're home, she stays in her room and when they go out, she doesn't talk to anyone. Her headphones have become her best friend and she doesn't bother engaging with anyone else. The days are just dragging by.
"So she broke up with me."
Janine listens to Kat tell her story about her break up with Monica. Every day someone is either calling her or showing up at her door step with a problem. For some reason her friends have started coming to her for relationship advice even though she's been single for an entire year.
"Because you kissed Jenna?" She asks with a dry tone, wondering why she can't have a normal conversation with her friends for once.
"She kissed me!"
"Either way your lips touched and you didn't tell Monica."
Kat lets out an aggravated sigh. "I was going to tell her."
"Even though Monica and I aren't friends, I do know she has a crazy attitude. You should have told her as soon as it happened so she could go after Jenna and not you. I'm surprised she didn't punch you in the face when she found out." Janine taps her nails on her chin, "How did Ty even find out?"
"I don't know," Kat sighs, "Malcolm probably told him, he is nosy and persistent so who knows."
"So what are you gonna do now?" Janine asks.
"Keep my distance I guess. You should have seen how mad Monica was. Her face was red, she had tears in her eyes. I half expected her to smack me too." Kat tries not to sound too broken hearted, but her sadness is clear in her voice. "I really don't want to let her go."
Janine rolls her eyes, she's heard this way too many times. "I think giving her space is the best idea. Let the situation calm down for a little bit and once y'all had time to really think, then y'all can try to work things out."
"Ok," Kat says softly. She glances around the room and spots Monica's suitcases stacked up against the wall. The only time they're in close proximity to each other is when they're either in the car or Monica comes into the room to grab something from her luggage. They don't speak, they just pretend the other isn't there. Well Monica does anyway, Kat usually stares at her, wishing she'd just break the silent treatment and speak to her even if its a simple hi.
Kat knows she messed up badly and every minute that goes by with Monica not talking to her, she feels dead inside. Being in this house only makes things worse. Even though the boys still try to treat her normally, with the exception of Ty, Sevyn rarely utters a word to her and Miranda never talked to her that much in the first place. She feels lonely without Monica around to talk with or chill while watching a movie. She misses Janine and wishes she were here to comfort her.
Janine breaks the silence, "So when are you coming home?"
"Thursday,"
"Good, y'all need time apart."
"Mhm," She actually cant wait to go home and get away from the California drama. She sits there quietly for a little while just breathing steadily over the phone. Janine already knows she's sitting and staring off into space with those sad brown eyes and slanted eyebrows, making her look like a toddler in time out. "How's things back home?" Kat changes the subject.
"Busy," Janine replies. "Everyone is talking about Aubrey, they did a news story on her this morning but so far the police haven't found anything. It's scary though, like she disappeared into thin air. No clues, no leads. Keenan is trying to keep from going crazy."
