Aubrey's stomach has been in tight knots since she woke up this morning. The first thing she did was check her phone, a habit that she can never break. She only had one text from an unfamiliar number with a simple message: I'm coming to see you;) After digging out her sweatpants from a couple days ago, she finds the slip of paper with Jeremiah's number scribbled on it. She compared it to the number on her phone and it ended up being the same.
Ever since then her stomach has been aching painfully to the point where she can't even eat anything. After her aunt left to go out with a few friends, Aubrey took a shower and made Neveah a bottle. Now they sit on the couch, Neveah is sucking on her fist and Aubrey is staring at the tv not even paying attention to whatever is on. She's nervous knowing that Jeremiah will show up at any moment. She hopes he'll change his mind, decide not to come and leave her alone. But deep in her heart she knows that isn't the case. He's always been a very persisten person. When he has a goal in mind, he doesn't back down from it.
Picking up her phone she scrolls through it for a moment even though she already knows she doesn't have any notifications. Ever since she admitted to Keenan that he wasn't the father, her phone has been drier than usual. He was usually the one that called and texted her the most, aside from Janine, Carson, her mom and her sister. Her mom called yesterday to check up on her but she hasn't heard from her sister in a while, which only makes what Jeremiah said to her seem more true. Maybe her sister really did feed Aubrey bullshit just so they could make up. Maybe she has been secretly fooling around with Jeremiah since she returned home to Florida after winter break.
The door bell rings, Aubrey's heart skips a beat and her stomach feels like it's about to fall out her butt. Summoning courage deep from within her, Aubrey gets up from the couch with Neveah in her arms and walks over to the door. She grips the knob with shaky a hand then opens it up, Jeremiah stands there leaning against the frame with a smirk. His eyes twinkle as always as he stands up straight, making him look like a handsome devil. "Good morning beautiful." He smiles.
"Why are here?" Aubrey questions.
"I told you I was coming by."
"Yeah, but why?"
"To come bond with you..." His eyes flicker down to Neveah. "And my babygirl." Those words sound weird coming from his mouth and Aubrey fights the urge to shudder. Jeremiah tilts his head to the side, "May I come in?"
His politeness creeps her out and even though she doesn't want to, she knows she has no choice. "Sure," Aubrey says softly. She steps to the side and gestures for him to come inside. Jeremiah slides past her into the house, bringing along the alluring smell of his cologne. A herbal scent with a dash of freshness, like clean laundry. The smell that often made Aubrey curl up next to him when she was having a hard day and instantly fall into a comforting sleep.
She closes the door and watches as he walks over to the couch and sits down like he belongs there. She doesn't realize how long she's been standing here staring at him until he smiles and pats the seat next to him. She hesitates then slowly takes the seat next to him, leaving a good foot of space between them. Jeremiah studies her with hard eyes ans sighs, "You're looking at me like you don't know me."
"Because I don't." Aubrey scrunches up her face. "You cheated on me...with my sister! Then you appear in connecticut a year later saying you love me and want me back. Why?"
Jeremiah's full lips purse in fustration and he puts his elbows on his knees, looking at her sideways. "Even after you left, I tried to forget about you Bre. I told myself that it's my fault that you left and you deserve better, but I couldn't shake the fact that me and you had something special. We were meant to be together."
