"There he is!" You hear your best friend sigh dreamily.
You follow her gaze to see it on Jimin. The smile you had on dissolves as you shake your head.
"Really, *Lei?" You ask, raising a brow at her.
(*Pronounced like Lay. It's a Hawaiian name.*)
Jimin was known around campus for being a womanizer. Nothing wrong with it because from what you've heard through the grapevine of campus gossip, he's very transparent with his intentions, meaning he doesn't rely on lying as a way to get a date. However, you just never understood why anyone would put themselves in a position that would inevitably lead to heartbreak. You can't recall if Jimin ever had a relationship–if that's what you'd even call it–last longer than two months.
Relationships in general seemed like a hassle to you. It required too much time and effort that the thought of it seemed exhausting to you. Lei would occasionally tease you about being part robot, something that seemed fitting.
"He's just beautiful, you know?" Lei adds in a wistful tone.
"Well, instead of drooling over him, why not approach him?" You offer.
Lei narrows her eyes at you. "And come off desperate like all the other girls? Hell no. I'm happy to admire from afar."
You chuckle at her response. "Yeah, because you don't look desperate at all."
Lei throws her napkin at you. "Shut up. I just...I'd rather he approach me." She replies, her expression resembling someone who's about to get caught up in a daydream.
You nod your head in response, choosing silence rather than antagonizing your best friend.
You don't blame Lei for falling in love with Jimin. He's quite attractive which is what makes him popular with the opposite sex. He has the good graces of being kind while also being devastatingly beautiful. It annoyed you to some extent that Jimin had little to no flaws. It's one of the reasons why you've been stern with your list–the one that practically outlines what you're looking for in a potential companion: monogamy, someone who doesn't sleep with the entire female student population, and who only has eyes for you. Qualities that, fortunately, fall outside of Jimin's character.
Unfortunately, mornings are the only time you have to spend with Lei. The two of you have completely different majors, so even in between classes your paths never cross. As you walk to your class, you hear a loud group trailing behind you. You don't even have to glance back to know it's Jimin and his friends. Because of Lei, you were very aware of what Jimin sounded like. Lei had an ear attuned to Jimin's voice, she'd always squeak with excitement when he's near. Because of this association, you've also become attuned to his voice.
You and Jimin shared similar classes. He was also majoring in the Arts, although his was performative while you were majoring in art design, there were still classes that led to some crossover.
