You don't know what possessed you to agree to a blind date, but you did and had no choice but to doll yourself up for the dinner planned that evening. Your friends always pestered you about being the only single one in the group. They weren't rude about it, but just felt bad about excluding you from certain friend trips since it was more of a couple's retreat. Their consideration spared you from feeling like the odd one out, despite, literally, being the odd one out.
You didn't mind the exclusion since your work was quite demanding. You often clock in a lot of overtime considering how short-hand the industry is. Besides, more work means a bigger pay. It's not as if you had sworn off dating either. Between a few failed relationships and lack of allure in the current dating pool, you weren't in a hurry to meet some guy who could potentially be the absolute worst. You understood that starting a relationship would only complicate things.
You were determined to achieve your career goals before entertaining the idea of a serious relationship. Not to mention a lot of people your age uses dating apps. Nothing against the convenience of swiping left until happening upon a potential match, but you crave organic relationships. Despite your career-focused mindset, you were a romantic at heart.
"Okay y/n, you got this. You're only doing this to get them off your back." You say while staring at your reflection. Apparently the guy's name is Taehyung, a friend of a friend who was new to the city.
You only agreed to this arrangement because your friends had already set things up before you gave your answer. You're partly to blame because you were simply ignoring the debacle altogether. That plan backfired.
The restaurant of choice was on the nicer side and you were grateful to have picked a simple outfit that teetered on the line of casual and upscale. Little black dresses are never a bad choice in your opinion.
You find Taehyung waiting near the hostess booth. He was gorgeous upon first impression that you couldn't fathom why he needed someone to arrange a blind date in the first place.
"Hey, y/n right?" He greets casually.
"Yeah, it's nice to meet you Taehyung." You reciprocate with a pleasant smile pulling across your lips.
"I apologize if your friends roped you into this." He says as the hostess leads the way to your reserved table.
A small laugh passes your lips as you say, "It's alright. I'm pretty sure my friends would have arranged this regardless."
After ordering, the two of you make small talk. Taehyung talks about his new job role for the company he works for while asking you about yours, which you kindly oblige. You realize that there's no initial spark between the two of you other than trading pleasantries, but you try to make the best of it by asking questions to keep the conversation flowing.
As your meal arrives and the conversation begins to hit its strain, you feel a subtle wave of defeat. You didn't expect the night to be perfect, but it did disappoint you to some extent. The connection you were looking for, at least in terms of an intimate partner, wasn't there. Other than admiring his work ethic and attractive looks, you felt the night would likely end in a newfound friendship rather than a budding relationship.
