Over the next week, you find Jimin suspiciously lurking around. Lurking might be the wrong word to use, but since neither of you had interacted with one another before your assigned project, you couldn't help but take notice just how often you see him. Jimin seemed to be in your peripherals on a consistent, daily basis. It struck you odd since it wasn't something you recall.
You had regretted swapping numbers with him due to his constant text messaging. You had initially exchanged numbers with the intent of only contacting one another if it pertained to your project. However, Jimin took it as an open invitation to message you about unrelated matters whether it be about a new song he's obsessed with or a meme that you had no context of. You wouldn't always respond, deferring to simple, single-worded replies hoping it would discourage him from further messaging, but that was hardly the case. If you responded, Jimin would find ways to invite you out, which you respectfully declined. The continued back and forth, mostly one-sided, messaging would continue that even Lei took notice of it, cocking her brow every time your phone would buzz.
"Who keeps messaging you?" Lei asks one morning as the two of you eat breakfast.
You inwardly cringe. You hadn't told her about Jimin, but figured now's the time to do it and get it over with.
"Jimin." You respond calmly. Lei's head snaps in your direction.
"Jimin? The love of my life, Jimin?" She gawks, earning an eye roll from you.
"We're paired together for a project." You explain.
"And you're only telling me this now?!" She exclaims. "I feel so betrayed." She throws in dramatically. "
You fight the urge to roll your eyes again and say, "It's not a big deal. He's...interesting." Your choice of words were vague but polite.
In all honesty, Jimin seemed like a nice guy. You had expected him to be charming since you've heard enough rumors about it, but you hadn't anticipated his genuine and kind demeanor. You half expected his personality to be a forced kindness, one that was meant to attract people's attention, but to not have enough substance behind it to maintain a decent friendship. It was a poor assumption made on your part.
"He's a fascinating specimen that deserves to be treated kindly." Lei's words fall from her mouth at lightspeed. "I hope you're not giving him a hard time. I know how you get when it comes to group projects."
"I'd say I'm treating him in a friendly manner." You reply honestly.
You even shared a few laughs with him, something that doesn't come as naturally when you're around strangers. Lei holds your gaze for a moment, making you stir with discomfort before it's interrupted by Jimin.
"Y/n!" He greets happily, plopping down next to you, his usual broad smile pulled across his face. You swear you hear Lei squeak with surprise. "Why haven't you texted back?" He asks with a pout adorning his features.
