Your mother takes a sip of her tea while you sit across from her. She was hoping to meet with you the previous day, but you had been preoccupied with work and taking Yoongi to the airport. You omitted the latter from her though. You still weren't ready to reveal you had a boyfriend just yet. She'd make a big deal out of it and would most likely scare Yoongi away.
"Why must you make an old woman wait." Your mother sighs before flashing you a warm smile.
You breathe out a laugh. "You can hardly consider yourself old." You remark before pulling her in for a hug.
Though your mother can be overbearing and sometimes a little too nosy for her own good, she was still a good mom. She had been your number one fan through the many phases of your life, even when it was ridiculous or far-fetched, she never criticized or made you feel stupid for your decisions.
"This is a trendy place." You comment while taking in the small restaurants' boho-chic décor. It was quite different from the spots you usually meet your mother at.
"I figure we could use a change of pace." She offers with a small smile.
"So, did you want me to convince dad to stop with his DIY renovations?" You ask with a knowing look.
Ever since your father retired, he's picked up a new habit. He would walk around your childhood home, finding areas he's certain he could fix up on his own. Installing a new sink in the kitchen? No issue, though he did bust a pipe during the installation, causing an even bigger mess than when he first started. Your sparse phone conversations with your mother over the past few months have cued you into just how crazy he was driving her.
Your mother chuckles. "No, though I think I'll definitely give you a call when he wants to work on the roof." She begins, a slight look of resignation crossing her features, before continuing. "I was actually hoping we could talk about Miho."
Your smile falters. Miho, the guy she tried setting you up with just before you started dating Yoongi. The very same guy you had politely rejected. There was nothing to talk about, other than he's of the past. Your present and future, in terms of dating, belonged to Yoongi.
You breathe out a deep sigh. "Not this again."
She rolls her eyes at you. "You're single, he's single, and you both live in the city and have good jobs. What more could you ask for?" She presses.
"Maybe because there's no spark." You point out.
"Sparks aren't sustainable for any relationship." She brushes off before adding, "What you should look for is someone who can withstand anything that life throws your way."
I have that. With Yoongi. You think fondly to yourself, but you don't voice the words out loud.
"I just don't think he's looking for another date anyway." You say with a sigh. "I already turned him down, so I think it's best we let it be."
