Your back and neck feels annoyingly stiff as you wake up in Jin's living room. The couch itself wasn't uncomfortable, but the position you fell asleep in was hardly what one would consider smart. You attempt to stretch out the kinks in your body before getting up to check on Jin. It was early, just coming up on 6AM.
You're not sure how long you waited by his bedroom door last night, hoping he would've emerged to talk to you, but he remained locked inside. Your overall concern for Jin is what convinced you to stay the night. Normally, you would've given him time to himself, but after witnessing what happened yesterday, you were compelled to stay by Jin's side. It seems that he's been alone with himself for too long and you needed him to know that there was someone rooting for him.
The thought of Jin's mom sends a cold chill down your spine. You recall previous conversations you had with Jin about both of your families. It pained you to know that he still cared for them despite their treatment and expectations towards Jin. You figure, just maybe, there was a time when his parents showed him warmth and kindness instead of placing unbearable pressure on his shoulders. It was something you were fairly familiar with.
Even though you had become estranged with your own family, you still recalled a time when things weren't so complicated. Thankfully, you had your own support system–amazing friends, a good job, and a place you consider your own safe haven. These were things you acquired over the years. Surely it didn't happen overnight and it was hardly an "easy" thing to accomplish, but once you had a solid support system, it was as if your worries were more manageable–they no longer loomed over you like daunting mountains waiting to unload an avalanche upon you.
You wonder if Jin truly had these things in his life to remind him that his wants and dreams were both valid and possible. You wonder if he ever felt safe enough to be that open and vulnerable before. You knew to some extent that Jin was willing to share his burdens with you, but you also were very aware that he kept the toughest and darker things to himself. There were times you just wanted to smash through the walls he built around himself, but you knew anything forceful will do more damage than good.
Time and patience, that was the only way to help Jin. If he didn't have the support, then you wanted to be there for him. You wanted to assure him that there was at least one person in his life that valued his aspirations in life, no matter how "frivolous" they were. It was as simple as that.
Your heart feels unbearably heavy as you approach Jin's bedroom door. It was still closed. You press your ear against the door, but hear nothing. As you reach for the doorknob, you see it turn. It opens, revealing Jin with disheveled hair and a puffy face. His eyes widened upon seeing you. You offer a warm smile before pulling him in for a hug. He seems startled at first before finally relaxing into your embrace.
"I'm sorry about everything that happened yesterday." He whispers into your hair. "It was uncalled for and I'm sure there are things I need to explain to you–" He begins but you cut him off.
