Y/n's POV
Whitehaven, Memphis, TN

"Thanks for your time. We'll be in touch." I shook my head before walking out of the HR office after the interview.

"They ain't gon be in touch fo' shit." I then loosened my tie and put my suit jacket in my backpack before putting it on my back. I walked over to my bike, cranked it up, and sped off. This was probably my 10th job interview, and no one has gotten back with me. On top of that, Ryan and my grandma have been on my ass about work and reaching out to my mom.

Though I understand they're trying to help, I can handle shit on my own.

I decided to pass time, and head over to Jack Pirtle's to get a 3pc with fries and two biscuits. I then sat on my bike seat while eating my food. I then looked over to see two kids looking at me crazily. Since I was an asshole at heart, I jumped at the kids, and they quickly rode off on their bikes.

Minutes passed before I finished the entire box and chugged the last bit of my Coke down before throwing the cup away. I got back on my bike and rode back to my grandma's house.

"Grandmama!"

"Girl, you betta stop screamin in my house like you own sumn." I walked in to see her sitting on her recliner in her muumuu and bonnet watching "The Price Is Right".

"I know this ain't all you watch?" She sucked her teeth before snatching her eyeglasses off.

"And if it is, that ain't yo business no how." I took my shoes off before getting on the other couch in her living room. "How the interview go?" I sighed not having the chance to vocally express my experience. "You need to call Ryan."

"Grandmama, come on now."

"Nope, I ain't tryna hear it, Y/n. I've been tryna support you but this has gone too far. Since I know you ain't gon talk to him, I called him myself." By now, I quickly got off the couch frustrated that she crossed that boundary without my knowledge.

"Grandmama, that ain't yo place!" I calmed down out of respect for her. "I understand you tryna help but I'm a grown. It's job to find work for myself and not havin him or nobody hand the shit to me." Before I could vent some more, the doorbell rang as she got up and walked out of the room. Eventually, she came back with my brother not far behind.

"I already called him and told him you can start tomorrow." I took a hard breath as my frustration grew.

"Grandmama, like I said. That wasn't yo call to make."

"Y/n, just stop, mane. We ain't tryna fight and go against ya. Just let us help ya out."

"Shit, y'all goin against me by makin plans without my knowledge. I was gon figure it out regardless." I decided the best option I had was to leave before they could piss me off some more. Before I could get further out, my brother held on tightly to my arm. "Nigga, let me go." I gritted as he didn't budge.
