WHEN I MOVED here I was a rebellious child. I didn't like the clothes my parents made me wear, I didn't like the way they straightened my hair and I didn't like they way they talked to me, like I was a business partner, and not their child.

Which was why the moment my only friend - the only kid on the block who could understand my situation - suggested we do something illegal, I didn't hesitate to join him.

We were sixteen. Four years ago.

One day though, we didn't cover our steps. A heist gone wrong resulted in bags thrown over our heads and our wrists tied together with zip ties before we were put in an empty room.

That's where we met Director Hayes. And that's where we met his younger son, Reign. Who, at the time, although quiet, could at least smile. He was three years older than us. More mature. But still, even at nineteen he was serious. Now at twenty three, he's equally serious.

But, just because I work here, doesn't mean I'm an inherently murderous person. Am I now? For sure. I learnt. I learned that if you didn't take the first shot, and if it weren't fatal, you could die first.

Of course the whole killing thing scared me at first. But when I realised the people we were recruited to deal with were often terrible people, that fear of it all? It turned into anticipation.

Which is why when Director Hayes stepped into the Team X meeting room declaring we'd be planning a mass wipe out surrounding sex traffickers? I was practically bouncing on my feet.

"They're a group that has been in the media for just over a year now," Director Hayes explains, "There have been many complaints and allegations, but never any prosecution. There was a trial a month ago, but not enough evidence was found to put them in jail."

"So we've been asked to discreetly finish the job?" I wonder out loud.

"Yes Sasha," He nods at me, "We're covering it up as a gang brawl. Although they weren't caught up on the sexual assault charges, it is pretty evident they act as a gang. When we kill them all, we have people from Team Y who are going to plant some added drug evidence to make it seem as a disagreement."

Team Y? We rarely incorporate our work together. Usually it's some petty competitiveness. We literally refer to each other as colours. Them the blues, us the reds. But for sex traffickers, I'm sure we'll all easily put our differences aside.

"Won't people then try and catch this killer gang?" Keagen tilts his head.

"A few," Hayes shrugs, "But more people are angry at them than begging for their justice. We can predict this will all be swept under the rug."

Perfect.

"We'll be dealing with this in a few weeks though," Hayes declares, "And in the meantime, I have a small separate case I need you to work on."
