What Happened To Kindness

Jace is still holding a sleeping Eva in his arms as it is nighttime, there are loads of bodies laying on the deck Jace walks past them but he does stop and kneel down by a girl, he has to get his sister out of here "Jace!" He hears Clary's voice and he turns around "Clary? Clary." He says realising it's her and he stands up and they go toward each other and meet on the docks, Jace looks at her confused "How did you get here?" He asks and Clary shrugs her shoulders "I portaled in. Come on, let's go. We don't have much time." She says and Jace shakes his head, if he went with her and they were caught he was not risking putting Eva in danger whilst they were so outnumbered "I can't." He tells Clary "What?" She asks and a guard looks around making Jace quieten down "Look, we gotta get you out of here." He says quieter and Clary shakes her head "No, I'm not leaving without you." Clary says and the guard sees them and runs towards Clary and Jace. Jace quickly turns to Clary "take Eva!" He orders her and she takes the sleeping toddler from her brother who still had Bob tight in her clutches, the guard is about to attack them when Jace jumps forward and fights him whilst Clary watches them fight holding Eva who is now whimpering in her sleep holding Bob tighter, Jace manages to get the man's blade off of him as Valentine approaches them "My dear Clarissa. You are tenacious, aren't you?" He asks and Jace protects Clary and his sister wielding the blade towards Valentine "Stay back." He warns Valentine but he grabs his own blade and starts fighting Jace but Jace manages to pierce Valentine with his blade and he falls down "I killed him." He says partly shocked that he was able to do so "Jace, come on. Let's go." Clary says as more guards approach and one of them calls out "Valentine! No! Get them!" He calls and Clary and Jace look at each other "We have to go, now!" Clary says and Jace and Clary start running and enter the ship but Inside, Valentine, still alive, attacks them and Jace looks shocked he doesn't understand what's going on, he just killed Valentine on the docks "Miss me, son?" He asks with a smirk and Jace and Valentine fight again and just like on the docks Jace pierces Valentine and together, they fall over the edge to the lower part of the ship. Clary looks down and shouts "Jace!" Which wakes up Eva who groans and rubs her eyes with Bob as Clary goes down the stairs, Eva watches with sleepy eyes as "Valentine" transforms into another guy, she doesn't quite know what is going on but she sees that Jace is shocked. She looks up at whose holding her as Jace looks around when he hears grunting. "Clary?" Eva asks and Clary smirks at her as cages full of prisoners rattle. "What is this place?" Clary says as Eva squirms to be put down so Clary does and she walks over to one of the cages "Looks like a Downworld prison." Jace says and Eva gasps "oh these poor people." She says reaching in to touch one of their hands, and the man kneels down to be eye level with the little girl and every other down worlder in the cages look at the little girl as she looks in the mans eyes "I'm so sorry." She says and everyone in the cages look towards the little girl who looked like she was about to start crying "More like a zoo." Clary says and Jace turns to her "Where is the Portal?" He asks her and Clary activates a rune on her wrist and she reveals to be Valentine and Jace is angry "Your skills may be unparalleled, but your loyalty is sorely lacking." He says and Eva gasps letting go of the mans hand and runs to her brother who stands in front of her to protect her "don't you come near her." Jace shouts at him and he smirks as his men capture Jace and one grabs Eva and everyone in the cages began banging the metal bars of their cages and shouting at the circle member who was still holding Eva in his arms and Valentine steps forward and injects Jace with a serum and Jace goes unconscious "Jace!!" She calls out and Valentine looks at her "you little miss are going to help me with my mission to rid the world of down worlders starting with your friends... String him up." Valentine says ordering his men to hang Jace up and Eva is terrified, the flower behind her ear is hissing loudly and the man holding Eva drops her as the flower grows and Before Eva can do anything the flower grabs the man as he screams and eats him before shrinking back to its normal size and the other circle members in the room backed away from the little girl in fear and Eva was shaking in the corner of the room by one of the cages as she watched men put chains on her brothers hands and begin to hoist him into the air, the people in the cages put their hands out in front of Eva to keep Valentine away as he approaches Eva "I think it's time we had a little chat, hmm?" He said looking at Eva and she shook her head holding Bob up by her face "No thank you." She said her face hiding behind Bob and Valentine smirked at her "Cute but it wasn't a question." he said grabbing her pulling her away from the people in the cages who were going crazy he drags Eva to the door before turning around "Shut them up and if they don't quieten down... kill them all." He says and Eva gasps "No! Don't hurt them! You Monster!!!" She screams hitting Valentine with Bob who turns and grabs her wrist so he is effectively holding both her arms and she tried to pull away but he tightened his grip hurting her "Ow." She said quietly and he smirked "If you hit me with that one more time i'll throw it into an open fire and make you watch as it burns." He says to Eva who gasps as he releases her wrist and she holds Bob close. "I won't let him hurt you Bob." she says to Bob quietly "I don't like this man I want to go back home and be with Alec." Bob tells her and she nods "me too." She tells him quietly and Valentine pulls her into what looks like a kitchen where there is a small table "Sit." Valentine orders her letting go of her arm and she runs over to the table and takes her bag off to get her sippy bottle out so she can drink some apple juice and look to see what snacks Alec packed her, she also took her hood down allowing her hair to fall messily around her face she looked up to see Valentine had disappeared somewhere so she started eating apple slices that Alec had put in her bag and she hummed happily as she ate them "Do you want one Bob?" She asks her friend "No i'm not hungry," He tells her and she nods "You talk to a toy?" Valentine says standing at the door and Eva jumps "No, I talk to my friend. Bob is my friend." She says glaring at Valentine before she lifts Bob up and hugs him tightly "Don't listen to him Bob." She says hugging him tightly and Valentine sees the apple slices and the juice bottle "Where'd you get that stuff?" Valentine asked her and she looked up at him as he placed two plates on the table "Alec packed my back pack before we headed to Camille's to find a white book. My Alec always packs good things but my Izzy always packs me a cookie, Jace usually packs me a bananananana." That makes Valentine snort at how she says banana "I see, and Alec is the boy who was brought in with that warlock wasn't he?" Valentine says as he pushes a sandwich towards Eva "eat." He says and Eva is glaring at him " 'that warlock' has a name, it's Magnus and he's my best friend! He gave me this pretty hair charm just like Meliorn gave me the pretty flower. I have lots of new friends, there's Gretel who's a wolf and she is really kind, she is really cool and tough and she protects her pack" She tells him whilst reaching up to touch both of them and the flower hums against her hand and Valentine simply watches, taking in the information she told him, before she pulls the plate towards her and looks at sandwich "What's in it?" she asks looking at bald man who had a sandwich of his own "It's PB&J, I heard kids eat that kind of thing." He shrugs and Eva lifts an eyebrow and picks a half of it up sniffing it "What does that stand for?" She asks and he throat feels funny, it feels a little weird to breathe "Peanut butter and jelly." Valentine says and Eva drops the sandwich and jumps out her chair with Bob making Valentine look at her alarmed "I assure you it's not poisoned, why would I bring you here only to poison you with a sandwich?" He says and she shakes her head "No, I can't eat it... My Alec says that peanuts make me sick and that they hurt me." She says and Valentine understands what she's saying, she has a peanut allergy. He swaps there plates around "There, have a chicken one whilst we talk, aren't I a nice guy?" He says sarcastically and Eva climbs back into her chair shaking her head "No not really." She says and he looks at her as she sniffs the sandwich then starts eating it, "So... what I need your help with, is getting rid of those filthy down worlders and you are going to lure them out of wherever they are hiding and bring them to me." He says and Eva looks horrified as she shakes her head at him "No way! There my friends I won't let you hurt them!" She tells him and he sighs with a smile "Oh you won't have a choice, either help me or i'll kill your brother, then i'll send my men to get your precious Alec and Izzy, then your friend Magnus or maybe I should go and get that dog you were talking about Gretel? i'll kill them all slowly painfully whilst you watch. It. All." He threatens her with a smile before he picks up his sandwich and starts eating it as Eva now feels sick, she thinks for a second before she shakes her head "No. I won't help you." She says and Valentine looks at her and sees the fierce look in her eyes and he nods his head with a sick smile "Ya know kid, I like you, you've got guts... your the complete opposite of your parents, i'll give ya that. But I hope you know that your decisions will have consequences and that they will be your fault." He tells her and she forgets that she had heard that her parents were in the circle "I'm nothing like mommy and daddy." She says and Valentine nods "I know, I can see it, but I heard from a good friend of mine Hodge, that your mommy doesn't like you, now imagine saying that to your child? That you hate them, that you wish they had never been born. No parent should ever talk to their children like that but I heard that your mommy despises you, that she never wanted a child like you. Your saying that I'm a monster and a bad man, but your mother treats you like that... her own flesh and blood , I bet you she never made you a nice sandwich or made sure not to give you any peanuts. So am i really the monster?" He says to her and she has tears running down her face with her bottom lip trembling, Valentine just picks up his sandwich and continues eating as Eva sits and cries hugging Bob tightly, she knows her mommy didn't like her but the worst part was everything that Valentine said was true, her mommy had never made her a sandwich and she had almost given Eva a peanut cookie about a year ago and if Alec hadn't noticed, god knows what would've happened to her. Valentine finishes his sandwich and Eva only eats about a quarter of hers "Well, why don't we go and check on your brother, make sure that they havent killed him yet." That gets Eva's attention and she puts her juice and apple slices back into her bag quickly before picking up Bob and waiting by the door as Valentine got up after her, leaving the plates on the table as they headed to where Jace was.
