Once Arwen, Will and Max had been told they could finally come to one of Steve's parties they went back to Mikes where the rest of the party was and told them, Mike wasn't as enthusiastic as everyone else and Arwen was still thinking about how she had admitted to Robin that she liked girls, it felt like a massive weight lifted but it also felt different.
El, Max and Arwen got ready in a separate room to the boys, blasting out Madonna, "come on guys it's nearly seven!" Lucas called from downstairs.

"Yeah yeah we're coming." Max shouted as they made their way into the living room, "so there's going to be alcohol at this party?" Lucas asked, "yeah obviously." Arwen replied.
"Well I'm not drinking and neither is El." Mike rolled his eyes and put his arm around El, "no one has to drink if they don't want to, now come on." Arwen opened the door for everyone to walk past.

Once they were at the party the room was packed, there were high school kids everywhere, beer pong, people drinking out of keggers then throwing up on the lawn. Arwen immediately broke away from the group to where the drinks were, "hey what's in this?" She pointed to a large bowl with some weird looking liquid in. "PURE FUEL!" The guy shouted then crushed a beer can on his head, "okay..."

Max downed a cup of beer then took a couple shots before remembering who she needed to talk to. "Hey Nance."

"Max! Hi." She pulled her in for a hug, "I've missed you, how are you?"

"You saw me last week." She laughed, "a week is too long, it's only been the boys around, where is Arwen is she here tonight?" Nancy looked around, "actually...that's what I wanted to talk to you about. A few weeks ago she had a really bad nightmare which I know for a fact she's still having and we talked about her speaking to the guidance councillor, we know that you have her home number for access during the holidays so we were wondering if-"

"Yes of course, here I'll write it down now." She grabbed a pen off the side and wrote it on a napkin, handing it to Max, "thank you for this I really appreciate it-" Arwen quickly caught Max's eye in the corner of the room where she was downing shots, "oh god, um I should go see Arwen but thank you again for this Nance."

"Of course." She smiled, Max quickly rushed over to Arwen and took the shot she was about to down out of her hand, "hey! I was going to drink that get your own."

"Okay Arwen you're a bit drunk, come on let's get you home." Max placed her arm around Arwens shoulder but she pulled away and stumbled over herself, "no it helps me forget about him." Max quickly held onto her trying to keep her balance which was a challenge because she wasn't exactly sober herself, "forget about who?"

"Him. My dad." She slurred her words, "everyone thought he was so great but let me tell you he-"

"Arwen are you okay!" Robin and Nancy walked up to the girls, "hey, why are you crying." Nancy wiped the tears off her cheek and looked her in the eyes, "ahe's just a little drunk, I'm gonna take her home guys." Max walked away with Arwen, supporting her waist, "thank you love." Arwen said catching Max off guard, a bright red flush quickly covered her face.

"You know Maxie your face- your face is re- ally pretty." Arwen placed her head on Max's shoulder and touched her cheek making Max giggle, "so is yours Wen."

"But I'm just so sad." Arwen sighed, "why?" She furrowed her eyebrows, "because of you- you don't. You never are honest okay you don't tell me how you feel." Arwen turned to face her and fell forward, their faces now inches apart from each other, "deja vu."

Suddenly headlights flashed on them as a car pulled up, "hey get in." Steve stuck his head out of the window, "you think I'm letting you two knuckleheads walk home by yourself? I'm not drinking tonight because of all of you- god you're giving me grey hairs already." He looked in the rear view mirror.

Flashback to the snowball 1984

"Do you maybe want to dance Max?" Lucas put out his hand in front of her but she looked between him and Arwen, "uh I was actually wondering if Arwen wanted to dance." Max walked past Lucas, "what?!" Lucas glared at Arwen who was stood there awkwardly, "sure-" Max took her hand and they walked to the dance floor, "you turned Lucas down for me? I thought you liked him?"

"No! Not in that way, I wanted to dance with you." They both smiled and danced along slowly to the music, it felt like it was just them in the room, their bodies gradually got closer together until Arwen could practically feel Max's breathe on her face.

"Hey why did you turn down dancing with Lucas, he's a real catch you know?" Mike stood between them, they quickly pulled away, Arwen looked between Mike and Max then stormed out of the gym thinking about what just happened, what was she thinking dancing with Max?!

"Were you just joking around back there?!" Max followed Arwen into the empty hallway, Arwen turned around with tears running down her face causing Max to back down with her tone, "why do you wanna know?"

"Arwen can you just answer!" Max got closer, "why are you interrogating me! I don't know how to answer that!"

"I'm not interrogating you!" Max shouted, "you know what? Just forget it! I don't care anyway." She was now the one to storm off.

After an hour of pacing up and down the school parking lot Arwen decided to walk back home. She walked across the street and passed Max's house thinking, "fuck." She muttered and walked up to the side of Max's house where her bedroom window was, she was just sat on her bed doing nothing, Arwen immediately felt so much guilt.

"Are you just gonna stand outside staring at me like a creep?" Max opened the window and stared at Arwen, "I'm sorry."

"For what staring at me from outside or what happened at the dance?"

"Uh-both." She sighed, "I was out of line and after everything's that happened this year, you're the one thing that makes sense Max."

Max's eyes filled up with tears, she placed her hand out for Arwen to grab, "come here." She pulled her into her room and held onto her tightly, "you mean the world to me."
