25. 𝑨𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒉.

Chapter 25~ Aftermath.

𝟐 𝙙𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧

It had been two days since the mindflayer had finally died but not without killing Billy and nearly Arwen in the process. The town was shocked to learn that such tragedy could take place in their small town whilst the group were so used to it, it was the new normal. Frustratingly, residents of Hawkins couldn't actually know the full truth and would believe anything they heard on the news, the new thing going around was 'satanic cults', although a satanic cult causing the fire at Starcourt mall was much more believable than a big fleshy monster that absorbed peoples dead bodies.

"Shit Arwen, you're bleeding." Max lifted up the covers and rushed out of bed to grab the first aid kit, Arwen refused to stay at the hospital after everything that happened, considering you know, it also got wrecked by the mindflayer, plus the fight between her and Max in the hospital bathroom was not one of the fondest of memories there. Max also refused to leave her side and they soon found themselves completely isolated from the others, the only other person they saw was Rachel who couldn't make a bigger deal over Arwen than Max if she tried, "are you okay?!" Max asked after she had gotten the first aid kit, "I'm okay." Arwen lied but smiled back, she was in the most pain she had ever been in, not only was her side cut but she still had a chunk missing from her leg, she didn't want to give Max more to worry about though.

Max removed the bandage and placed a cloth onto the wound causing Arwen to wince in pain, "sorry." She whispered, "Max- I'm worried you're not taking time for yourself..." Arwen let out, "what do you mean." Max half listened, too busy rewrapping Arwen's bandage, "you can't just look after me. Distracting yourself isn't necessarily a good thing, if you don't think about it now it will all catch up with you." Max kept her eyes on Arwen's wound as tears started to blur her eyes, "Arwen I feel completely numb." She admitted, not looking up, "because of Billy-"

"No." She cut her off, "because I couldn't live if you hadn't made it." Max now looked up into her eyes, "if you had actually gone I would have walked straight out of that mall and stopped breathing."

"But I'm here Max, I'm still breathing." Arwen took her hand and brought it up to her heart, "it's beating." They stared at each other for a few seconds before Arwen took a deep breath, "Billy is gone. You can't ignore that and I know how horrible it sounds but you can't just not think about it." Arwen said, she searched Max's eyes for a reaction, not knowing if what she said was too harsh when Max suddenly burst into tears and nodded her head, "I know." She sobbed.
