Chapter 50~ The snowball.
"Arwen breathe." Max's voice sounded around her, she scrunched up her face with her eyes closed and kept thinking over and over about every memory they shared but one specific memory kept flashing through her head.
"uh I was actually wondering if Arwen wanted to dance."
"sure-"
"you turned Lucas down for me? I thought you liked him?"
"I wanted to dance with you."
"Were you just joking around back there?!"
"Why do you wanna know?"
"Arwen can you just answer!"
Arwen's eyes suddenly opened to a different setting. She slowly turned around in a circle and took in where she was. The snowball. It looked exactly the same as that night, "holy shit." She whispered to herself.
"Eighth grade all over again." A voice said from behind making Arwen jump, she whipped her head round and instantly felt like everything would be okay. "Max." She let out a sigh of relief before running to her, "hey, hey." Max whispered as they both cried in relief, "what- what happened?!" Arwen pulled away and looked over her girlfriend to make sure she wasn't hurt, "I'm okay, I'm not hurt- are you okay?!" Max now looked over Arwen, "he took me to the upside down- I saw Nancy, Robin and Steve and...I tried to use my powers against him but I ended up back in Victor's house." Arwen frantically explained, "oh my god what?! I stayed in the house- he showed me stuff from my past with- with Billy so, I thought of you and I ended up here." Max said, "I thought of you too-" A tear fell onto Arwen's cheek, "what are we supposed to do now? I would love to say we're extremely in synch and thought of the same memory but I'm pretty sure he wanted this." Arwen carried on, "he's not here right now and...I don't know what's going to happen but it's only us. We're both here." Max grabbed her hands, "you still owe me a dance." She reiterated from what she wrote in the notepad earlier, "I guess I do." Arwen let out a happy yet worried laugh.
They walked into the middle of the dance floor and started swaying until music suddenly turned on, "every breath you take." Arwen whispered, "the same song that played at our dance." Max finished her sentence, they both ignored how weird the recreation of the snowball was and kept dancing. Arwen placed her head on Max's shoulder and held her tightly, "Max?"
"Yeah?" Max moved her head to look at Arwen, "the only thing I wish I could change about this night was that we didn't kiss."
"It's not too late." She whispered, Arwen then
cupped Max's face and pressed a kiss on her lips. One they hoped wouldn't be the last.Suddenly the sound of popping made them both jump away from each other, their breaths hitched as their attention went to one of the tables to see blood splattered on the white cloth, another one sounded off behind them making Arwen gasp, "what the fuck." Followed by another one. And another one. Until the floor and tables were covered in blood, "what the fuck is this, Carrie?" Arwen questioned, Max put her arm in front of her as they stepped away from all of the blood.
Max quickly got distracted by the record player at the front of the gymnasium, it started playing a different song. "Oh my god the banner." Arwen pointed to 'the snowball' banner that was slowly being turned red with blood, "holy shit." Max stared at the centre pieces on the tables, that were going dead along with decorations falling and the place becoming colder, "are we in the upside down?" Max asked, worriedly, "pretty sure." Arwen replied, pointing at the white particles that pervaded the air.
A sudden struck of lighting made the girls turn to look through the windows, the sky had turned red just like it was from both of their visions.
"Max! Arwen! Come on you have to wake up!" Lucas shouted as he watched the girls sitting with their eyes rolled back, he ran over to the window and flickered his flashlight out to Erica but there was no response, "what's taking so long?" He panicked, he kept flashing it until he heard a noise from behind. Slowly turning around, his eyes widened onto Jason, "shit."
Jason walked up the stairs and looked between Lucas and the girls, "Jason. You can't be here right now man." Lucas warned, "what the hell have you done?" Jason stared in shock, "Jason, you need to leave."
"Is this what you did to Chrissy?" He questioned, "just listen Jason, you need to go man." Lucas repeated, Jason crouched down and put his arm around Max and Arwen, "hey, hey can you hear me. Hey." He waved his hand in front of their faces, "don't touch them. I'm not messing around." Lucas raised his voice and stepped closer to him, "hey, can you hear me?" He repeated to the girls, "Jason please!"
"Hey! Hey back off!" He shouted before pulling out a gun and aiming it at Lucas who put his arms up in defence, "back up!"
"Wait wait wait- we don't- we don't have to do this. We don't have to do this man." Lucas pleaded, "I hope you're right. Is there anyone else in this house?" He asked, "no, no."
"Turn around." Jason demanded, "what?" Lucas let out, "turn around!" He repeated and Lucas did as he was told, "okay, okay. Relax, relax."
