"I like this song. It makes me gloomy." Rory states. We were laying on my bed with lane, studying whilst listening to music.

"Gloomy's good." Lane says

"Really gloomy."

"Like, joy division gloomy?" I ask

"Nick cave gloomy?" Lane questions

"Robert smith gloomy?" I suggest

"Johnny cash gloomy." Rory explains

"So, kind of like a San Quentin-y, 'it's a long road home and my horse just got shot, but I still got my girl by my side' gloomy?" I ask

"You read my mind."

"I'm deep in a Charlie Parker gloomy." Lane tells us

"Henry still hasn't called?" Rory questions

"Oh, no, he called." Lane replies

"He did? Why didn't you tell us?" I exclaim. I wasn't with them the night of the party. But they had caught me up on the whole Henry situation.

"I didn't talk to him. He left a message. I listened to it 8 1/2 times, then my mom came home, and I had to erase it. I was so panicked, I broke it, which is better, because now all evidence that a boy called me is in the trash." Lane continues

"8 1/2 times." I smile at her

"It was a good message the first couple of times. Then I started parsing it for subtext." Lane justifies

"What did he say?" Rory questions

"He said and I quote, 'hey lane, it's Henry.' Not a good start." Lane begins

"How do you figure?"

"It's so gender neutral. It's how you start a conversation with a bowling pal." Lane responds

"He asked you bowling?"

"Then he said, 'it was fun meeting you the other night.'" Lane continues

"What?" Rory asks

"He didn't say which night - like he doesn't remember which night, like he's mixing me up with another girl from another night. For all I know, he thought he was calling the hot blonde he met at a hopped up night at Balthazar's." Lane rambles

"He's a 16 year old Korean boy." I point out

"Or so he led me to believe."

"What's the bottom line here?" Rory questions

"The bottom line is that he wants me to call him back. But if I do that, then he's probably gonna ask me on a date. And if I go out on a date, it could lead to another date. And then I'll have to introduce him to my parents. And once I do that, they're gonna like him, because he's korean, and he's gonna be a doctor. And then once that happens, that's it. It'll be over. He'll be hideous to me." Lane sighs. "Now I'm Lou Reed gloomy."

The phone rings and I pick it up. It happens to be grandma.

"Hello?" I say into the phone.

"Tori, Hello. Do you have a minute?" Grandma asks me

"Um... sure." I reply

"Is Rory there too?"

"Yes, she's right next to me." I explain

"Okay, good. I know this will probably seem silly, but I was wondering what your favorite colors were." Grandma says and I make sure that Rory can hear too.

"Oh. I don't really have one." I say and look at Rory with a weird face. I was confused as to why grandma was asking us this. "Blue, I guess."

"Red, for me." Rory adds
