"Look at this place — exactly the same." Mia states as we walk into Luke's.

"Actually, I made him paint it a few months ago." Mom explains

"Good for you. Nice to see you, Lucas." Mia and Luke hug.

"Mia, hi. You're the only person in the world I that can call me that. Her, over there—" he points to me. "She does it just to mess with me, but you, you have permission, Mia. Mia, you know anything about toasters?"

"Not a damn thing." Mia admits

"Well, then, sit down and let me get you some coffee." Luke suggests adm walks away.

"So, Mia, how's living in Santa Barbara?" Mom asks

"Horrible. Did you know the damn sun shines all the time out there?" Mia admits

"They've written songs about that." I say

"No one told me that. Half my wardrobe is obsolete." Mia states

"Drag. Hey, you know that blue coat—" mom begins

"—You're not getting it." Mia cuts mom off.

"You're making that worse." We hear Jess tell Luke.

"Big help. Thanks." Luke replies sarcastically.

"Luke's nephew." Mom tells Mia

"Luke, that's your nephew?" Mia shouts

"It's Liz's kid. Jess, this is Mia. She owns the independence inn." Luke introduces them both.

"Huh." Jess shrugs

"That's 'hello, nice to meet you' in slacker." Luke justifies Jess's response.

"You don't need me down here, do you?" Jess questions Luke, but before Luke can respond, Jess walks away.

"I'm sorry, Mia, he's just—" Luke starts

"—Oh, please — you weren't exactly a talkative boy yourself when you were his age." Mia points out

"That's right. You knew Luke as a boy." Mom adds

"I can't imagine Luke as a boy." Rory speaks up

"Can we change the subject?" Luke asks

"He would help people carry groceries home." Mia continues

"How very big scout-y of you." I say

"For a quarter a bag."

"Oh, how very John Birch society-y of you." Mom adds

"He was never without his skateboard." Mia tells us

"We're You any good?" Mom questions Luke

"I could hold my own." Luke replies

"And there was that year you wore the same T-shirt everywhere you went." Mia continues

"I don't remember that." Luke states quickly.

"It must have been something flannel." Mom jokes

"No, it was from that tv show. The famous one." Mia explains

"It's not important." Luke says

"Star Trek — that's it." Mia remembers and Me, mom and Rory all laugh.

"Oh, my god, oh, my god!" Mom exclaims

"Stop it." Luke commands

"You We're a trekkie." Rory questions, whilst laughing.
