NAVINA
I walk the empty halls of school. I just left art class and I'm just about to walk back home... I should really get my driver's license soon. I'm already 17 so I should get on that. As I walk down to the sidewalk I pull out my phone to text Caden. He did surprisingly come to school today he didn't update me on anything with the FBI and it's been almost five days since he did say he was working with them. I did tell my dad the same thing and he checked it out and it was true.
The FBI are really trying to take down River Golbach. He was the chief of police in boston where caden was and the people at the station he works at said they both left because of Maria West-Goldbach's death, and they needed some time to which River adopted Caden and they left.
ME: hey! I just got back from school.
I pocket my phone after a little while and I get home. Mom is gone but it's not surprising. The door closes behind me shaking the house. The sounds reverberating through the walls. I slide my shoes off and plop my bag on the stairway as I head for the kitchen.
I frown as I continue walking. Something's off. Something unsettling plagues in my belly as I walk to the kitchen...
My stomach drops when I see River Golbach sitting on the stool smirking as he watches me. "Navina.'' He speaks smoothly. His cigarette voice goes through me sending a shiver down my spine.
My eyes go cold as I walk to the kitchen and grab the knife closets to me and the fathest away from him. A butcher's knife that my mom used to cut steak. Should work. I hold it up to him. "What the hell are you doing here?'' I spit out trying to get rid of the fear lacing in my voice and the shakiness of my hands. You dont show fear infront of a boy like River. Not man. Men wouldnt do what he is doing.
He puts his hands up smiling a tad. "Now now Navina... I'm not here to hurt you." he speaks calmly. Way to freaking calm. He gets off the stool, the creak of the stool shoots and I walk back as he walks closer to me. "I just want to talk." he says , adjusting his cufflinks. His deep dark blue eyes go through me and I try to fight the simmering urge to look away.
"About what?'' I spit out the knife clutching in my hand even harder. I notice my knuckles going white. My heart hammers in my chest and I notice that the air has gotten really freaking hot.
"About caden." he smiles "who else?" he then says cockily. I notice the slight scar again as he gets closer. I wonder how he got it. And i hope to hell it hurt really freaking bad.
"What about caden?" I then question, not sure why I'm fueling his discussion .
"Well" he sighs, walking closer. He runs a hand along the marble countertop. "You and him have gotten pretty close. And you seem terrified of me, everytime we see eachother. So that means that, that idiot told you or you found out." he says calmly. I don't know how to describe his demeanor other than calm and precise. His sharp suit sticks to his build like always but it's black instead of a deep blue. His black hair slicked back and not one ounce of white or gray showing. His moves are so calculated and so pristine... his demeaour is so dark and closed off.
My first thought was that is what Caden gives off, when he wants to... i can't even stomach the thought. Caden and RIver are nothing alike.
"I found out." i than speak in a whisper not knowing why so i add "You sick piece of shit.'' I say spitting venom as I go closer to him, the knife points to his chest. My hand is clutching it tightly, my knuckles turning white trying not to show the shakiness.
He chuckles. "Oh Navina... I see what Caden sees in you. Ultimately you're just a piece of ass." he sighs and I wince at the harsh language. I never heard someone talk about me like that... I don't like it. At all.
