CHAPTER 52

CADEN

A buzzing wakes me up. My eyes peel open and I smile right when I see Navina. Her soft expression as she sleeps. Her chest rising and falling evenly. Her blonde hair covers a little bit of her face, I push it away as he needs nestles in between my shoulder and jaw. I can't believe what happened last night... I was just so caught up about what she said the other night and...

Well I caved. No matter how many times people tried to convince me to actually be with Anvina, no one really set a stick.. Until she said it in a haze. Said that I was only hurting her more by leaving then staying...

I was stupid, it was stupid. I could save her a lifelong end of hurt if I left... but i would also cause a lifelong end of hurt if i stayed. There was no winning. But I wanted her. I needed her. I needed her like I needed oxygen.

I hear another buzz. This time from the side of her bed pushed against her wall. I realize that it's my phone. Sighing i try not to wake her up as i move slightly and try to find my phone. Once I do , I wish I hadn't.

RIVER: where the hell are you?

I read the text over and over. Why does he care so much about where I am? Another text rolls in as i think,..

RIVER: There's a gala today but we have to be there earlier so you're not going to school. Get here now.

I sigh rolling my eyes at his demand. I also wasn't thinking when I got him out of prison. If he even went. Regardless of me helping or not I think he would have gotten out. He's River Golbach. He's a powerful figure, not just as chief but as an individual himself. He's rich, he's connected, and he's powerful. I would say that someone of that status would be getting out of prison.

I try to move from Navina's grasp without warning to wake her up... she's probably gonna be sad if she wakes up and i'm not there, i'll text her in the morning... Well by morning I mean when school starts since it's only six am. I fumble with my clothes as i slide them on. Before i leave i plant a soft kiss on her forehead. My green. Mine. all mine. This gorgeous woman is mine.

I shake my head slightly at the irony as i start to walk out the door. I don't think her mom is awake. I could be wrong but as I open the door after sparing one last glance at Navina before I close it I stand still for a long moment trying to listen. When I don't hear anything for a while I start walking down the stairs. My footsteps are soft and unmastered as I get to the door. Once my hand goes on the knob i hear a clearing of throat.

I wince as I turn around seeing Navina's mom smiling cheekily at me. "Caden." She says her green eyes are bright and full of shine.

"Hi." i say.

"Where ya going?" she asks as she nears closer to me. Her walk is stealthy and full of sarcasm. She's enjoying this. Of course she is.

"Well..." I start as I point to the door.

"Did you just have sex with my daughter and leave without telling her?" she asks as her arms cross around her chest. I try not to show anything to her abrupt use of 'sex' and I swallow.

"I was gonna text her... she is sleeping and i didn't really want to wake her up, you know school is this morning and all..." I stop myself from speaking when I realize I'm rambling a little. since when do I ramble?

"And aren't you going to school?" she continues.

I shake my head. "No, I'm not going I-" I stop speaking and she nods.

"Well don't flake on her again. She really loves you, you know." she says with a serious expression. I nod.

"I love her too." I mutter, meaning it completely. so desperately in love with her.

She doest speak so I turn and start to open the door, but again before I can hear her words cut through me. "You remind me of my husband, you know." she sighs as she looks at me, her sarcasm dulling, now she's just Elizabeth gallagher.

"How so?" I ask her, not wanting to just run out.

"You both lock up your hearts." she says sighing , her gaze wavers as she stares down at the wood flooring until meeting my gaze again. "Scared to admit how you feel, because if there's something good around you or someone." she says, glancing up the stairs. "You back away scared to face the truth." she finishes. "Anyways, have fun wherever you're off to. Don't flake on her Caden West. Tell her your truth." she says as she sighs and starts to turn away and i turn as well opening the door stunned to speak.

As I start walking I text Navina that I had to leave but I'll see her soon. Hopefully.

NAVINA

I sigh as I read Caden's text again, the words dangling on my tongue as I try to figure out what happened...

'River texted i had to go, i'm going to some gala or smth for him so i wont be at school either. I'll see you soon.'

Am I reading into it or is he lying?

"Watcha looking at?" I glance up at Eden as I watch her sit down beside me in the cafeteria. Her hair in a high ponytail, her jet-black hair long as it skates down her shoulder. She frowns as she looks at the text too. 'Caden?"

I nod, sighing. "We um... well we kind of slept together last night and well when I woke up he was gone and I got this text."

Her dark gaze glances over it as she reads it with a frown. "Seems legit." she says. "What else happened?" she then asks and she steals my fry popping it in her mouth as she watches me.

"Well, last night, i was reading and what not and he texted asking to talk and i said yes he showed up at my window and i let him in. he said he was sorry for pushing me away and all and said he loved me." I say in one breath my gaze wavering trying to recall everything.

Eden just hums her eyes narrowing. "What else? Did you say something when you were drunk."

I shrug. "I don't know. That's what i thought at first but i didn't ask we were... busy."

"Having sex.' she clarifies smiling. "What I'm not judging!" she says shrugging as she notices my look. "You had sex with him before right?" she asks like she already knows.

I just nod.

"Damn. my girls are getting round now." she says as she takes another fry. I swat at her hand. "Hey!" she pouts as I take the frys away from her.

"There mine." I say with a cocked brow.

"whatever. " she says, rolling her eyes, still chewing her last stolen fry. "Just text him and ask how he is doing now." she shrugged.

ME: how's everything going?

I nod contemplating my brows furrow as I type it out into simpler words. "Done. Hey where are Chase and colby?" I then asked furrowing my brow, noticing the lack of males at the table.

"Oh well Chase is stuck doing a test in math and colby... Well, I don't know." she says, frowning. "I'll text the group chat and see." she says as she pulls her phone out of her black skirt pocket. I notice she also has fishnets on and black combat boots that over black long socks.

A couple minutes later I got a text. From caden. Nervously I open it feeling dense eyes on me.

CADEN: fine... how's everything at school?

Eden sees and reads it over. She hums in response. "He's not lying." she says like shes absolute as she then chats in the groupchat with colby, he said he's not even in this state. He's in london. I wonder what's happening.

ME: normal. When are you getting back?

It's a couple minutes later until I see the three dots pop up on the screen.

CADEN: not until later.

ME: I love you.

I click send, I'm feeling risky.

CADEN:I love you two green.

My heart warms a little. At Least he doesn't regret what happened last night, that's good right? "Girl stop worrying he loves you." eden than says as she rolls her eyes.

"I don't doubt he loves me. I doubt that he will be able to handle it. That and that he won't be able to love me and be honest and grow himself."
