For the last few minutes of the party, David spent most of the time eating some desserts. Practically everyone insisted that he enjoyed the last moments of the party. Playing cards with us and some soccer with the boys in the backyard.

When it was home time, despite it only being nine pm, he offered that he drive me back to campus. Telling Penny, who drove me and the girls to my house, that he would be careful and won't drive recklessly.

After she finally said yes, we were in Derick's car and on the road before anyone else. Cheekily smirking at him in the passenger's seat, "Did George put you on a time out from driving his car this time?"

Scoffing softly before smirking back at me, "Nah, I just want us to travel to your birthday date in style, Ariel."

I don't know how or why hearing 'birthday date' made me so happy and giddy. Suddenly, I was buzzing with so much excitement all at once, "Where are we going?"

"Just a small place in Downtown." David said charmingly before getting onto the freeway. "So, how has your birthday been so far, love?"

Taking a moment to think about how my day had started and how it's been at this point. Getting very mixed emotions about the day, "Well, as you know, the girls surprised me with French toast in bed and their gifts for me. Before taking me out for breakfast, they tried taking me to flirt with some of the guys that they thought were cute and admit that they're worried about me and 'mystery guy' aka you."

Glancing at me with a confessed expression before asking, "Worried in what sense?"

I'm starting to wish that I've told him a white lie about my birthday.

Playing with my fingertips and nails before saying carefully, "Since I don't really share much about us to them, they're worried that you, 'mystery guy', have some kind of bad reputation that they or me don't know of."

"What? Did they say that they think you're dating a serial killer or something?" David asked playfully as a joke. Until we came to stop in front of a red light. I was not answering because I didn't know how to give him a truthful one that won't hurt him.

But when he noticed my expression, the playfulness was replaced with understanding, "Oh."

For a minute, we both stayed quiet before the light changed to green. While driving, David broke the silence, "So, I'm guessing you had to clear things up and got into a heated agurement?"

A heavy blanket of guilt laid over my head before saying quietly, "I yelled at them."

The blanket got slightly heavier as I continued saying, "I didn't mean to. They were thinking wrong things without knowing who they were talking about. And I got upset and snapped at them because I couldn't tell them anything."

When we stopped at another red light, I noticed that I've teared up. Cold and warm fingers brushed the fallen tears before he softly kissed my cheek, "I'm sorry you had that hard talk with the girls, my darling."

My darling. That's a new one.

The heavy blanket got a little lighter when I heard David's new pet name for me. It was very sweet and cute. Really like being called 'darling' by him now. Awe, I want to tell the girls - oh.

Leaning my forehead against his with my eyes softly closed, I admitted, "In that moment, I wanted to tell them. Just so they know that I'm with someone who they trust."

I still wish that I've just come out with it. David could be upset or whatever for a moment.

Kissing my forehead before saying softly, "Please don't get mad,"
