GEORGE

Turning the corner of the café shop with the black coffee that Mila gave me, I sigh, knowing that this meeting is going to change a lot, not just for the people of our small town but for Mila herself. This could go a few ways for her.

She is the only wolf in this small town, and since I took her in when she came here, I have done everything I could to protect her. The promise I made needs to be kept. These wolves need to stay out of the town.

I walk to the council building, the hospital, and the church in our small town. The council is made up of various supernatural beings, so everyone gets their needs met. It is hard to ensure that everyone and the ones we love are kept safe.

I enter the room where the meeting is being held. Barry, the bear shifter, and Margo, the Vampire, are waiting. They are heads of their own shifters. We are only waiting for Gerald and Skylar to come. "Hello, where is the rest? Are they on their way?" I ask as I take my seat at the top of the table, as I am the mayor of the town.

"Skylar is just around the corner and will be in shortly, but Gerald hasn't been seen since yesterday since the phone call with the Alpha," says Barry, who sits beside me.

"How did Mila take the news of the wolves wanting to come into town?" He says as he turns to face me.

I sigh. "She found out this morning as two rogues were looming around the south side of the territory. She followed them and witnessed what they could do. She was fine, but Sapphire was on edge. They are working today, so let's try to get this sorted, as I might have to do a few new spells so no one can sense either of them."

He takes in what I said. "I know we all don't want any problems, so I hope we all agree not to let them come into town. Wolves are bad news; rogues come all the time, but having a pack as well and this close by makes it look a lot worse."

Just then, the door flies open. Skylar walks in. "I totally agree we shouldn't allow the wolves into the town. It is for our safety but also Mila's," she says as she takes her seat next to Margo. I only now realized that she had been silent and hadn't looked in my direction since I had come in.

"Margo, what are your thoughts, or should we wait for Gerald?" I ask, looking at her for answers, but her face is blank. "We should wait for Gerald, but he is bringing someone here."

"What do you mean he is bringing someone here with him to the meeting," I say, and before she can answer me, the door swings open, and Gerald walks in but he isn't alone. A wolf is with him. He looks my age.

I don't like the look of this. I force a grim look and glare at him.

Everyone in the room is glaring at this wolf that has just charged in here to come into this meeting.

"Who is this?" I ask Gerald, who looks white as a sheet.

"Ah, you must be the mayor of the town. My name is Beta Michael. The Alpha has sent me here to meet you." He says with this hand outright to shake my hand. I stare at him.

"You are not supposed to be here. Why Gerald, are you with Beta Michael?" I asked without looking at the Beta and stared at the man I call a friend.

"I am sorry, George, last night I was out walking in the forest to collect some wildflowers for a new potion I'm creating, but a rogue jumped me. Two members of the pack came to my aid and saved me. Their pack doctor checked me over and came home. I met with the Alpha, and he asked if Beta Michael could attend our meeting today," he said with a hint of guilt hidden in there. The guy couldn't even look at me; he just looked at the floor the whole time he was talking.

I stared at him but turned my attention to Beta Michael. "Why would you want to attend this meeting? This is to determine whether we allow you and the rest of your pack to enter our town. This has nothing to do with you or your alpha." I say with a snarl.

I don't like that this is happening, and now I have to make sure we don't mention Mila in front of the Beta.

Beta Michael stares at me and grins. "The Alpha wanted to ensure you hear what we can offer. We can offer some amazing trades now, bringing new customers and maybe a few new stores to open up in the town."

I look around at the people in the council. They have an incomplete hatred and disbelief that the alpha and this beta had the nerve to come to the meeting.

I can feel the tension in Skylar since she is a cat shifter, and only a few are left alive. She doesn't want the wolves here. Gerald looks like a deer caught in headlights and looks petrified. Margo, who is the leader of the vampires, looks like she would like to suck his blood, and Barry is stiff as a board. I know why he hates wolves.

"I think we need to talk this over without a pack member present as I know some people here have their worries," I say, glaring at the beta, but before I can continue, Beta Michael speaks again. "I just want to make sure you have all your facts about us. We won't hurt you, any of you."

I have had enough of this. The Alpha undermined me after the phone call, and I suddenly had the edge to kill a wolf.

I stand up and glare at him. "Enough Beta Michael. Your Alpha knew what we were considering. Many people here in town have had running with wolves in the past and not just rogues. Packs have torn apart people's lives here. There is a lot to consider, and I am going to be frank with you. I don't like being talked to like you are in charge. I am the mayor and high warlock here, so please try not to piss me off again, or I will take it upon myself to kill you with a swift of my hand," I say, and I know all the members around the table are smirking, knowing I am good for my word.

Beta Michael looks at me and doesn't know whether he should believe me.

"I think you should leave, and I mean now. I will contact your Alpha and tell him what we decide," I say as I move and show him to the door. "Barry will walk you to the edge of the border and you can make your way to the pack."

Barry gets up, stares at the wolf, but walks him out of the room.

I know full well what his action is, and with what the pack has just pulled, the other members will want nothing to do with them, let alone let them come here.
