MILA

It was getting late, so we agreed to stay in the tree. Archer killed some rabbits, and Sapphire happily ate them. We climbed up the tree as the sun was setting. We were facing the pack house. I was on the branch underneath Archer. I stared at the pack house I knew my mate was in.

"Do you think he is sorry, Sapphire?" I say through our mind link. I can tell she is wondering the same thing. She has been content lately when it comes to our mate.

"I think he was guilty and shameful when we left," she says with a sigh. "Mila, I want to get to know our mate."

"I don't know, Sapphire," I say. There are so many thoughts going through my head.

Sapphire is now sound asleep in my mind. I know she can sense my emotions everywhere. I don't know what to think.

"What's wrong, little dove? Drack can sense your uncertainty. What is troubling you?" Archer asked suddenly.

"Do you have a mate, Archer?" I ask.

"No, little dove, I wish I did," he says with a hint of sadness. "I wish she would come forward and appear. I have been on my own for many years. A dragon shifter has one mate; they live for eternity together, just them."

"That sounds nice," I say.

"Is this to do with your mate, the one who hurt you?" he asks. "Drack saw what you went through. He hurt you in a bad way."

I say nothing.

"Little dove, it is ok to be hurt. I know you are trying to process everything you learned and work out your feelings towards him. I think he is sorry for what he has done," he goes quiet but adds. "People have pasts, and they have to learn from them, but what we plan for the future is important, as well as who we want in the future. Ask yourself, little dove, can you see a future with or without your mate?"

I keep quiet. I know he is right, but I will not admit it.

"Mila, you are lucky that you got a mate. You may never get another one," Archer says. I know he is looking down at me, as I can feel his eyes.

I stay quiet and try to process everything Archer and Sapphire have said.

"You need to think about what you want, but I have to say, I want our mate. You need to think about what you want, but I have to say, I want our mate," Sapphire says. "Although he acted like a man whore, he truly felt hurt when he realized he had hurt us and witnessed what we saw."

Thinking about everything and Nathaniel, I'm not too sure. I wish he could have waited for me. Archer is right. We all have pasts we are ashamed of or think we could have done better. I shouldn't punish him for something he did in his past; he didn't even know we were mates. I should at least try to forgive him and move forward.

"I am always right," smirks Sapphire. "But seriously, Mila, I wouldn't agree to anything unless you are ready and happy. Plus, I won't let them hurt us; I will kill them before they hurt us again."

I giggle. "I think the little wolf is feisty," says Drack through my head, which earns another giggle.

I can feel Sapphire glaring at Drack, but she soon settles back down.

I can feel his smile. Both of them are happy. "Drack, I hope you and Archer find your mate soon," I tell them. "Maybe after this war, we will go searching for her."

They didn't answer. When I looked up, Archer's eyes were closed.

The sun goes down, and Sapphire and I sleep in our branches.

I am woken up by the sun blaring through the branch and someone jumping to the ground. I look up to see Archer, who is not there, but I look to the ground to see him look around. He looks up and gives me his most dazzling smile.

I jump to the ground and look at him. I need to get some new clothes. I'm smelling bad.

"We best make a move," says Archer, turning toward the pack territory.

We got to the border crossing, where a patrol guard was waiting. He looks at us. "What's your business here, wolf," staring at me.

"I'm Mila. I have business with Alpha Leon. Can you please tell him I'm here?" I say, looking between Archer and the guard, who seem to have a pissing contest.

"What is your name, human?" he says, glaring at Archer.

Before Archer can answer, I open my mouth. "Listen, wolf, tell your Alpha that Mila and Archer are here. He will know who we are. But can you ask if he can send George here to collect us?" I say with a snarl.

He looks at me, but his expression is blank. Archer has a big grin on his face. "Little dove is very feisty," he says through the mind link, which I can't help but smirk.

"Alpha Leon says you may enter, and George will meet you halfway," he snarls at us but lets us through.

We walk past and head toward the pack house. I can see some people from the town looking by and smiling at us as we pass. I can't help smiling back, thinking that most people I have helped. I am glad they are finally trying to overcome their fears of wolves.

"There are different supernaturals here," says an amazed Archer, looking at each person in awe.

I smile. "Most of these people are from my town east of here. Most of them don't like wolves, but when rogues attack the town and the pack, they all come together. There are many shifters here," I say, feeling proud.
