DANE

I leave my mate with her grandmother and head back to the office. I told Nate I had overheard George during the office when I realized what he was doing with Mila and her wolf. He told me not to say anything and that we would devise a plan once we knew what we were dealing with. I will have to tell Emily when I get back.

I can see Miles with Nate and wait patiently until they finish. After a few seconds, Miles leaves, and I enter the office.

Nate turns to look at me. "What the hell did you hear exactly?" he says as he sits on the couch. He looks defeated, but I know it has to do with his mate leaving.

I sat in the chair opposite him and relayed everything I heard during George's phone call last night.

I can feel his anger rise.

"The son of a bitch is working with the people that want to kill my mate. Why?" he says, anger rolling off him.

He looked at me as if I knew the answers.

"I don't know why, but I think Emily might now," I say.

He looks at me, but before he can say anything. "Nate, I'm your best friend; I would never lie. I think Emily might know something, but there is more to the story after what happened just now in the office. I think if she can think back, maybe she can figure it out," I say, sounding hopeful.

He looks at me for a moment. "I think you're right. I think she might," he says and gets up. "I'm going to my room. I'm going to mind-link my father about keeping George in the cells for a while and his mate, too. You go back to Emily and see what she can remember," he says.

We both got up and left the office, heading in the same direction as we made sure our mates were nearby, but I couldn't help looking at him when he walked past Mila's room. The sadness that comes from him makes me want to find her myself. He looks towards her door for a few seconds and then heads to his room.

I wait outside the room till Gloria and Emily come to the door. I can't help but smile. "All done, everything okay?" I ask, looking at my mate.

"Yes, everything is okay, but young wolf, keep the marking and mating until after the war, as we need her," I smile, but Emily's face turns red as a tomato.

Gloria leaves and Emily opens the door wider for me to come in. We walk in, and I can't help but ask, "Can you tell me what she told you?"

She nods. We both sit on the bed, and she explains in great detail the story about her father and Yariel and details what she has to do.

After she explained everything, I couldn't help but stare at her with wide eyes, stunned. "How do you feel if you have to kill your own father?"

She stares at the floor but carries on.

"I have to...I have to for Mila, for all of us. My father caused so much pain for everyone, my grandmother and even for his own coven destruction, torturing Mila, taking away every single memory I had of what he did to her, to me, and now he is going to do it all over again," she says. "Can I ask you a favor?"

"Anything, my love," I say, taking her hand in mine. "I will do anything you want and stand by you whatever happens."

She looks at me and smiles. "That's good to hear. I want you near or close to me when I kill Yariel and also my father."

I nod, but I can't help but grin. "So, after the war, I can have you as my mate."

She laughs and smiles. "Once the war is over, I will be all yours."
