MILA

After gaining some composure, Archer looked at me. He was on the opposite side of me, staring at me. "How can I be alive? How is that even possible?" I asked quietly, sounding confused.

Archer's eyes were all white again but came back within seconds. His eyes had tears in them. "That evening, we lost so much. I had to fight against a dark warlock, but when I shifted into Drack, he made the warlock fly away. The black wolf you saw in those dreams you had. His name was Devon. He killed his father before he slashed your mother's throat. I couldn't save her. I swore to protect you." The tears flow down his face as he continues, "I had my back to Devon. He was going to kill me with a sword he had brought with him, but you jumped in front of me, and he shifted into that demon wolf. Devon used his sword to slice through your heart, but Drack retaliated against Devon as he did to the dark warlock. I shifted back quickly and carried you over to your mother."

"This doesn't explain..." I say, but he shakes his head.

"You wolves pray to the Moon Goddess. We were all moaning when we felt a sharp cry from the most magical being I have ever seen, your Moon Goddess. She was upset that her children were fighting over her creations. She looked at you and told me to shift into Drack. When he shifted, your Moon Goddess told us we could share our hearts with you. We thought nothing of it, as we swore to be your protector. We did that. I had to hibernate as it took a lot out of me, but the Moon Goddess told me I would wake up from my slumber, and you would find me," he says. He looks at me with hope in his eyes.

"He speaks the truth, Mila," Sapphire says, yawning.

I am stunned. "What does that mean for us?" I ask, trying to understand.

He looks at me. "It means we share a heart. Well, Drack does. He is very protective of you. He feels all your emotions."

I don't know what to think. I have a dragon heart inside me. I have a dragon protector.

"You need to rest, my little dove," he says, yawning. I can't lie, suddenly tiredness sweeps in.

I lie on the ground while the fire is still lit. Archer looks at me but doesn't say a word, but I can feel my eyes slowly closing. I fall into a deep sleep.

ARCHER

Watching my little dove sleep, she looks so peaceful but also fragile. I can feel all of her pain, her suffering, her confusion, her loss.

All her memories are slowly coming back. She needs to rest.

"Her wolf is pretty," Drack blurts. "She is asleep, too."

"Well, running for miles would do that to you," I chuckle.

"She has been in pain because of her mate," Drack says, getting angry as he shows me all the memories of him. That was another part of what happened. We can see everything that has happened to her.

The anger building up inside me makes my skin burn. I know Drack wants to come out, even if it means to comfort her. I move around and sit closer to her. I look at the girl I once played with, trained in the basics of fighting, who wore cute little dresses to her made-up tea parties and made me sing to her when she couldn't sleep. She reminds me so much of Faith. She could be her twin.

I can sense another memory coming through, and she whimpers in her sleep. I move closer to her and place her head on my lap. I wish I could stop all the nightmares that she has had. Faith and Richard had to fight many rogues when she was born, so they will all flood back into her life, but once Devon knows she is still alive, I hope he doesn't.

I hum along to a song that I used to sing to her. It was a song my sister sang to me when I was younger, many years ago.

"We should tell her what we found out," says Drack. She will need to know more."

"We will tell her about the upcoming war that Yariel and Devon are preparing, but I think we will wait until we get to the pack," I say, knowing the information will shock her.

"Do you think they will ask other pack members?" he asks. I think Anna and Libelle should know, well, everything that is going on, especially since she is slowly getting her memories back."

I sigh. My sister and her dragon must know, as they are protecting someone special, too. We might end up being back together as a family. I wish I knew the answer.

"Anna and Libelle need to know," he says.

I close my eyes, knowing the only place I will find her is our connection, a memory she created. I arrive at the garden scenery this time; she is sitting on a bench looking at all the wildflowers, and my sister is one beauty. She reminds me so much of our mother. I smile, remembering when we would play and run around in a field like this. "You know we don't have long. You wanted to see me, brother," she says. She looks up at me with blue eyes while curly blonde hair flows onto her shoulder.

"I was remembering the good old days," I said. But I sigh.

"Well, you look good. Your hibernation went well, brother and you seem full. Has your human found out what is coming?" she asks.

I look down at her and sigh. "It seems George couldn't give her entire memories back. I sent the aura off too soon to get them to me. Her memories are coming back slowly. I must tell her about the war, but what about the other?"

She looks at me. "I can't keep you long, brother, as you need to make sure she is safe, but the other thing will happen soon. They will meet and we can be together. Have you heard from Lucas and his dragon? I haven't heard from you in years." She says, looking sad.

I shake my head. "Nope, I think he might be in hibernation. How is the other one doing, anyway? Still causing problems."

I know she is protecting someone special like Mila, but she loves him like I love my little dove, "He is doing great and has found his mate. Oh, brother, and so have I."

I just looked at her neck to see the mark of her mate. I am so happy for them both, but I feel sad and jealousy. I wish I could find my mate.

"That's great news, Anna; I am so happy for you," I say with a hint of sadness.

She looked at me. "Archer, your mate is out there. Once this war is over, you will find her," she said, giving me a side hug. We need to go. We can't stay too long. Oh, Libelle says hello to Drack and gets up off the bench.

After a few seconds, I open my eyes to my surroundings. I am back sitting on the ground with Mila's head still in my lap, using Drack's long sight. There is no one around.

I sigh.

"Anna looked good," says Drack.

"Drack, when do you think we will meet our mate?" I ask suddenly. "It's been years, and we have been alone."

Drack is quiet. I can sense his feelings. "She is out there, I know it," he said, trying to be hopeful.

I need to be hopeful. But at the moment, I need to keep Mila safe, too.
