MILA

He keeps staring at me.

"He doesn't know, does he?" I ask Sapphire. She has been on edge since they took their seats. "No Mila, the power is telling them we are human, but he wants to know about us, well, you," she says with a smile.

"You seem happy to hear that," I say, sounding slightly off. "I am, but I know you are not at the moment," she says.

I look back to find him still staring at me. I can't help but notice where the red-headed girl's hand is. I am getting pissed. Why doesn't he move it?

I notice a customer coming in, and I take their order.

I hear Emily; her heartbeat is racing really hard. I look over to see what is wrong.

Nothing. I notice the man on my mate's side hasn't stopped looking at her.

Sapphire has come forward and giggles. "I think that is our mate's beta. I think Emily and he are mates," she says. I hide my surprise. I still can feel eyes on me once again.

I use our enhanced hearing and listen to what is being said...

"Hi. My name is Emily, and I will be your server. What can I get you?" She asks.

"Well, someone with good customer service skills, we all would like sodas and cheeseburgers with fries," the redhead says. I heard a little snarl come out of our mate.

He is completely staring at me. I don't know if it's a good or bad thing.

Sapphire is intrigued but also cautious, too.

"No problem, but what do you mean by good customer service skills?" Emily asks her.

"Oh, that little bitch over there was unfriendly to our future Alpha," she says, pointing towards me, and I cannot help it.

I looked up at them and glared at her.

"Oh, my sister, she is normally friendly, but she has been having a few rough days of late," she says.

He turns to look at Emily. Emily looks over at me and sighs.

Another customer comes in, but I need to keep listening to them. He stops Emily.

Emily was about to leave. "Are there other humans besides you and your sister?" he asked her.

She looks at him a little surprised, but recovers herself really quickly. "There are humans here. Many are mated to a few shifters, as you may have guessed. We have many kinds of supernaturals here."

"What kind of other shifters are there? If you don't mind me asking," asks the other guy quietly.

I am shocked. That's rude.

Emily looks around; I know all eyes are on them. It's making her feel uncomfortable, you can tell. "I can't tell you that. Ask people around. It is rude to ask other people's personal questions," she says, sounding off.

"I apologize for my friend's rude remark. We are just curious. We are not here to harm or hurt any of you," he tells her, giving her a smile.

He looks at me, and I can't help but stare back. I have never heard of an Alpha who apologizes to anyone. It's unheard of. Well, that's what I have read about werewolves, at least.

Emily looks back and smiles at me and then back at him. "Thank you for the apology. I will give you some advice, though. All people here, including humans, have terrible experiences with wolves, rogues, and some packs. Please be careful when you approach anyone, as they may react. That might take offense," she says.

"I best get your order in to cook. Call me if you need anything," she says to them as she turns to head over to the counter to me.

Once Emily is by the counter, there are no customers. "I guess you heard all that," she says, sighing and looking back at the guy next to my mate. I nod. I will not speak as I know they are listening or trying to.

"The soon-to-be alpha seems keen on you. He hasn't taken his eyes off you," she says with a smirk. I look up at her with a glare at her. Her face changes to know not to push it.

She collects herself before saying. "They seem nice. Maybe their being here will help us," she says, but before I can say anything. Sapphire growls in my head loudly. I look over to see... that red-headed girl and our mate kissing. Sapphire is going nuts. She wants to come out and kill the red-headed bimbo and probably do some serious harm to our mate, too.

Emily sees my face after seeing what I was looking at. I am fighting for control with Sapphire; "go," she mouths to me. I don't need to hear or see anymore. I run straight through the café door, which leads to an open backdoor. I head straight outside.

Sapphire is furious. "How could he?" she roars in my head.

"Sapphire, calm down," I try to muster. Sapphire paces around in my head, knowing we can't shift or even go anywhere. We can't do anything about it.

I take a walk; it's the only way to calm both of us down.

I turn and walk. Most of the places around here have alleyways to get between places that are nice and low-key. I walk through one and head around in a complete circle, straight back to the side of the café, but as soon as I get closer, I can smell rotten eggs and death. A rogue is here, but he is not alone. Whoever is with him is scared.

Before I turn the corner, I can see a boy shaking and the rogue staring at him like he wants him to become his next meal.

"Sapphire, we have to save him," I say, knowing she can sense the fear coming from the boy. "He's a wolf, but his wolf is not there yet. He is young," she says.

I look at the rogue, who is ready to leap. Sapphire pushes herself forward, but we stay in human form. We are both going to do this together. I run fast and push the boy out of the way, sending him straight towards a parked car.
