"Either there's something in that journal that explains why Aria's dad would meet up with Ali the night she died, or we have to believe Garrett's story." Spencer says as we walk through the corridors of school.

It's dark and we're definitely not supposed to be in here but here we are, getting a bit too used to being places we shouldn't be.

"We couldn't do this at lunch tomorrow?" Hannah asks.

"Do you wanna run into Harold and his rusty bolt cutter again?" Emily asks her.

"The school basement is creepy at night." Hannah says.

"Stop my skin is already crawling." I say pushing open the door that leads to the basement.

I move out of the way so Spencer can head down first because there's absolutely no way I am.

"How does this prove anything Garrett says?" Hannah asks as we head down the stairs.

"He was in Ali's room that night." Emily tells us as if we didn't already know.

"Maybe he just made that stuff up from reading her journal." Hannah offers.

"Why? To stop us from thinking he did it?" Emily asks.

"Garrett was shot because he talked. Kinda makes me believe he was telling the truth." Spencer turns back to us to say before heading off.

"I really hope it's not true about Aria's dad. I have enough daddy issues of my own. I can't deal with having issues about hers, too." Hannah whispers behind me.

"All right, you guys go in. I'll keep watch." Hannah says as we get to Harold's creepy office.

Spencer opens the door and the three of us head inside.

"You hit the switch." Spencer says, which Emily struggles to find.

"There's somebody in here." Spencer whispers.

Then I notice the black figure stand.

Spencer screams and the person runs out of the office.

"Hanna, look out!" Spencer yells.

"Did you see anything?" Emily asks Hannah once the figure was gone.

"I didn't get a good look." Hannah says.

Spencer flicks on the light and the office is empty of all Harold's stuff.

"Where's all of Harold's stuff?" Emily asks as the four of us look around.

"It's like he was never here." Spencer says.

"Look, there's Ali's journal." Emily points out and  tries to head to the journal on the shelf.

"Come on, let's go." Emily says once she grabs the journal.

"No, wait." Spencer looks through the journal.

Nothing in there but an A note.

Keep moving, ladies. Nothing to see here.

"Thanks." I say as Spencer hands me a coffee.

The five of us are sat in the brew.

"You guys, I tossed and turned all night. I'd wake up from a dream about keep secrets from Ezra, and then I'd fall asleep and I would dream about
falsely accusing my dad. Weirdly, both of them ended with my teeth falling out." Aria tells us.

Tell me about it.

"Anxiety dreams. In mine, usually there's always
a piece of gum in my hair, and I just keep pulling and pulling until I'm bald." Hannah says.
