A year and half had passed. Hallie had a tubal ligation after the birth of her daughter. Max Jr. made up with Max he was now fifteen. Hallie had remained single, so had Sam. Sam had moved to New York to be closer to the kids. Hallie's fiftieth birthday was in three weeks. Max Jr. had recently gotten his temps. Sam had taken him out driving. Now they were out dinner.

"You did good today." Sam said. "I have something to tell you but you can't tell your sisters." "When your mom and aunt Andrea come to the show on her birthday, I'm gonna have a surprise cake waiting for her."

"Cool." "I won't tell them." "I know one of them will talk if I do."

"Did your mom every tell you I proposed to her on her birthday?"

"No."

"It was her thirty-third birthday."

"Did you ask her out after an interview?"

"No both our flights were delayed and we started talking."

"How long were you married again?" "A year?"

"A year and a half."

"Do you still love her?" He didn't say anything. "I knew it."

 "I'll always love your mom."

"Why don't you tell her you still love her?"

"I have, many times." "She always turns me down." "I really hurt her when we were together."

"I think you should try again."

"Why, because you want us together?"

"Yeah, but you and mom belong together." "We can all see it."

Sam and Max Jr. just walked through the front door.

"Hey you two." Hallie said. "How'd it go?"

"He did great." Sam said.

"Daddy!" Penelope said running up to him. He scooped her up.

"There's my girl."

"Maxie do good?"

"Yes."

Sam stayed and put Penelope to bed. He was coming down the stairs as Hallie was coming into the living room.

"She's out like a light." He said. "Everyone's excited your coming to the show."

"I can't wait.""

"I'll see you later."

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight." He left.
