A Love Lost

Chapter 54

"I need to get up." Hallie said. He got off her. She put on her robe and went to the bathroom. After she washed her face she started to cry.

Two minutes later when Hallie came back Sam was sitting up in bed covered with the sheet waiting for her. She got back in bed next to him .

"Are you ok?" He asked.

"No."

"I knew this would freak you out." "I don't want to hide how I feel."

"I don't want to hurt you Sam." "I don't know what you want from me." "As we've discussed many times before, we don't work as a couple."

"No, that's what you keep saying." "You always push me away and always use excuses."

"It's not just us anymore." "Let's say we got back together." "What about the kids?"

"I love the kids, all of them, you know that."

"I know" "if we got back and it didn't work out it would hurt them."

"Ok fine." He was agitated. He got up and started getting dressed.

"Where are you going?"

"Home." "I'm not doing this anymore." "I love you with all my heart and I want to be with you, but for years it's been excuse after excuse." "First it was the miscarriage, then it was Max, now it's the kids." "Either you'll never admit you love me." "Or you really don't love me." He said looking like he was about to cry saying that last sentence. "You don't have to worry, I'll never bring it up again." "I'm done."

"Sam-

"No Hallie." He said interrupting her. "Unless what you're going to say is, I love you too, I don't want to hear it." She didn't say anything. He left shutting the door behind him.

"I love you too." She quietly through tears. "It's not you, I'm scared."
