As years passed, Taylor and Travis's relationship remained strong, never leaning into the lover's category. Grade school then middle school passed, then time flew into their junior year of high school.

Taylor sat on her porch swing, strumming her guitar when she heard a familiar voice.

"Hey Tay", he smiled, sitting beside her on the swing.

Travis was about to speak when he noticed the red tear marks on her eyes.

"What's wrong?", he asked, concerned.

"Drew broke up with me", she said, sobbing all over again. She let out loud sobs, Travis removing the guitar from her hands and gently setting it down, pulling her into a hug.

"He didn't deserve you", he mumbled, stroking her back. Travis had grown quite the physique, not having a six pack and abs after the harsh workouts the varsity football players had to endure.

"He said it was because I was too close to a guy friend and I was too clingy", she sobbed into Travis's neck.

"He sounds like a dick", stated Travis.

Andrea, who had been eve's dropping from the front window, let her mouth fall agape at the mention of such an interproperate word.

Taylor sniffled. "He is", she agreed, laying her head on Travis's shoulder.

He gently rocked the swing, hoping his best friend would feel better soon.

"Hey, I know you're not feeling the best right now, but do you want to go to the creek? That place always makes you feel better", offered Travis.

Taylor picked her head off of Travis's shoulder, nodding. "Yeah, that sounds nice".

Taylor and Travis had made the creek their own since they were old enough to go out by themselves. They would play tag or house there when they were younger, but as they got older, they just sat there, throwing pebbles into the stream and chatting.

Through heartbreaks and good times, Taylor and Travis were always there for each other.

They hopped onto their bikes since the creek was so nearby there was no use driving.

Taylor sat on a rock beside Travis, listening to the soothing sounds of the water rushing by, as if it was telling them everything would be alright.

They just sat there in the comfortable silence, being still.

Suddenly, the teenagers heard the sound of a girl, maybe 17, giggling, holding the hand of a boy about her age from about thirty yards away. She had long brown hair, but that was all they could observe about her because the boy pushed her to a tree, passionately kissing her.

"Is that Katie?", Travis asked, surprised. Katie was his girlfriend.

"I think it is", agreed Taylor, peering her eyes to see.

"I'm sorry Trav. I guess we're both out of a date to prom now", sighed Taylor.

Travis sighed, nodding in agreement.

Suddenly, he had an idea.

"Hey Tay?", Travis asked, trying to ignore the loud sound of moaning coming from his now ex girlfriend and her mystery man.

Taylor hummed, looking into Travis's hazel green eyes.

"Since we're both unlucky and don't have a date to prom, why don't we just go as friends?", Travis proposed.

Taylor thought about it for a moment. "Actually, that sounds like so much more fun than looking for whoever's not taken at school", agreed Travis.

"Last one there's a rotten egg", Travis said all of the sudden, pointing to the creek.
