When Alan managed to break through the front entrance, also known as the main exit, he knew he had come just in time.
Second was captured by the mercenaries. He was tied and beaten up. The three mercenaries took his pen and are reporting to the other members that their job was done.
"Let him go, he has nothing to do with this," typed Alan, "I surrender and will accept my punishment. But please let the others go."
"ALAN?!" asked Second, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"
"Second..." said Alan, "I did many terrible things in the past. But now, knowing that the stick figures are sentient, I knew what I did was wrong."
"As the animator, it is my responsibility to protect all of you, my animations," said Alan, "I will do whatever I have to do to protect you."
Second remembered the sentient drawing he had made. What he was feeling for them was the same as what Alan was feeling for him.
"I understand now, but..." said Second, "Won't you be in danger?"
"I will be okay, Second. I promise..."
