We arrived in the city and headed straight for the playground we decided to meet at in the group chat. When we arrived, the boys were already there. Dave was dressed as a werewolf and Jack was a ghost. How creative... Jack literally just cut a hole into a white bedsheet and tossed it over himself..
Looks like only Skyler and our birthday girl are missing now.
We greeted them and Dave was especially excited today.
"ALRIIIIIGHT! I'M PSYCHED! Y'ALL PSYCHED? YEAH, YOU'RE PSYCHED! IT'S FREE CANDY DAY TODAAAAY!" He jumped on the spot with big eyes. There was a medium-sized box at the bottom of his trick or treating bag. It's wrapped with black wrapping paper.
Ray and I laughed with him.
Jack just looked at him with emotionless eyes. But if you know him well, then you can tell he's hiding a small smile under that cloth as he's excited too, in his own way.
Maybe I should bring up the thing with Laura.. Just so these goofballs don't get confused.
"Hey, let's get a little serious for a second. You two are aware of Laura's situation, right?" I asked.
"Uh, yeah? Why?" Dave calmed down a bit.
"Well, have you guys noticed that Laura has been a little 'distant' towards you two lately?" I asked carefully.
"Hmmmm.." Dave thought for a second.
"A little, I guess. She was sitting closer to you and Ray than usual." Jack answered.
"Yeah! You're right! We didn't do anything wrong that you gossips know of, right?" Dave asked, becoming a little less confident in himself, which is rare.
"No, I'm sure y'all didn't! It probably just has somethin' to do with the fact that her brother was a dude. Don't be hard on yerselves!" Ray explained.
"Oooooooooooh... It all makes sense now.." Dave said.
"Yeah, so if Laura acts a little distant then-"
"Don't worry. Me and Dave are understanding of the situation. We won't push her and give her space if she needs it." Jack interrupted me with his reassuring and calm tone as he put his cloth covered hand on Dave's shoulder.
Dave nodded and gave us a double thumbs up with a cool smile and swag wink.
"Great. I knew you two would take this well." I smiled.
Soon enough, Skyler arrived. Right on time!
"Hey, what's up, guys?" She invited herself into our circle.
She's dressed as a red demon. A low-budget red demon. She has a red horned led headband, a belt with a red devil tail attached to it and a small pumpkin basket.
"Is this really how you portrait my kind?" I asked a bit disappointed in her. She's like the biggest nerd about demons, dragons and fairytale creatures.
"Damn, you guys really put effort into your costumes." Skyler looked at us.
"Well, besides you, Jack. You're wearing a rag. I don't have to feel so bad after all!" She added.
"Honestly, I'm glad that you even dressed up as something! I was beginning to worry that you'll come without a costume like last year, ha ha!" Dave said, leaning onto Skylers shoulder in a mocking fashion.
"Yeah yeah whatever, Trish you're zombie outfit is so fucking cool. I like that you're using your disability responsibly." Skyler commented.
"Thanks. Taking my eye out of my socket only took 10 years off of my life." I gave her a thumbs up.
"It was worth it. Your costume is also really nice, Ray." Skyler said.
"Ha ha! Thanks!" She laughed.
"Hey, don't start the party without me." Laurie is here!
Ray gasped.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY PUMPKIN!" Ray immediately ran to Laura and hugged her.
She looked a bit uncomfortable but tried to mask it. I tapped Ray on the shoulder and scoffed, giving her a look of judgment.
"Ah, right! Sorry, Laurie." Ray backed off.
"But still, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Ray cheered, putting her hands in the air.
"Yeah! Happy rad 15 dude!" Dave cheered, too.
Laura smiled warmly as she appreciated our birthday wishes to her.
