"YEAAAAAH! WHOOOOOOOO! LET'S GET SOME CANDY!" Dave yelled and started running.

"Wait! We must embrace tradition!" I yelled out and stopped him.

"Huh?" He looked confused.

That's when Laura pulled out a small photo album from her black witches bag that matched her witch costume.

"Oh, right! The pictures!" Ray and Dave said.

"I'm gonna sit this one out." Skyler said.

"Oh, you're no fun!" Dave crossed his arms.

"I just don't like it when people take pictures of me!" Skyler crossed her arms too.

"Can you at least take the group photo for us?" I asked.

"Yeah, but not with my phone. My phone sucks." She said.

"Then use my phone. I'll send the picture to Laura later so she can print it out and put it in her album." I said.

She took my phone after I unlocked it and we all set our bags aside where they wouldn't be in the photo. Then Skyler seemed to have an idea. She crouched down on the ground and held my phone up high in front of her and zoomed out. We posed behind her, standing up straight. That way, Skyler is still in the picture but only partially. However, even though Laura and Jack are the tallest of us, they aren't very visible from behind Ray, Dave and I.

Laura thought for a second.

"Hmm... Let's make this a bit more authentic." Laura said and gave Jack a quick push.

He started slightly glowing as Laura lifted herself off the ground. She's levitating like a ghost! It's also kind of fitting for a witch? Then she slowly lifted up Jack and made him float, too. He started to panic slightly and held onto Dave's head for dear life.

"Take... Take the picture.." Jack stuttered out.

"Should I, though?" Skyler said in a mocking manner.

"Just take the picture, woman." I said a little annoyed.

"We look so good!" Ray said in a jokingly sassy tone.

"We so do!" Dave said proudly.

"I'll send this into the group chat later." I said and put away my phone.

Now comes the most exciting part of the evening-

"CANDY TIME!" Dave shouted and ran off with his back towards the nearest neighborhood as Laura set Jack and herself back on the ground.

"HEY! WAIT UP NUTHEAD! YOU MIGHT GET RUN OVER!" Laura yelled as we all sprinted behind him with our bags.

To every single house we went to, it was always the same.

"Trick or treat!" We all cheered and held up our bags.

The people would gush over our costumes and give us candy. Some even recognized Laura from last year and wished her a spooky birthday. But Laura wasn't the only one people recognized. They also recognized

me

"Oh.. it's you. Truelania's daughter. I'm so sorry for your loss. This must be your first Halloween without her, right?" People said from time to time.

All I could do was nervously laugh, akwardly agree and try to brush it off. I try and act like it's nothing and continue being a silly zombie girl.

Mom was the one who introduced Halloween to me. She looked at me in utter horror when I told her that I didn't know what it was. On earth, it's more of a western thing. I grew up in Eastern Europe, where religion and poverty was everywhere.

I don't want their pity. Not today. I don't want to ruin Laura's birthday. That wouldn't be fair. Especially when she has her own problems to deal with that are almost as bad as mine.

We continued to walk when we came up with the idea to go visit the graveyard. It's usually lit up with countless candles at this time of year. It looks super nice and timid. It's the perfect place to trade our candy with each other!

We sat down on a bench in the corner of the graveyard to not disturb the dead and started trading.

"I can take all the licorice as always." Laura said with a smile.

I remembered what Ray pointed out at the beginning of the evening. Laura was standing and walking next to us girls the whole evening and now she's sitting next to Ray away from the boys.

This will be a long episode for her..
