"Kim Jiae and Lee Donghyuck! Move it!" The teacher yelled at the pair, having the raven head finally snap out of her trance.

Great, amazing, spectacular, lovely-

"Looks like we're in this for three months, nutjob," that annoying voice quipped- the one she was praying wouldn't end up being her lab partners. She immediately rolled her eyes at his long used nickname for her, feeling the headache creep up on to her already.

One of the students, genuinely concerned, hesitantly went up to the lab incharge, "sir..uh...are you sure you want...those two paired together?"

Before the agitated older man could reply, to the his dismay, the pair in question heard him.

"Excuse you?? We're completely grown adults and perfectly capable of dealing with our differences!" Haechan protested with one hand on his hip and other on table. Jiae scanned him up and down, surprised by his sudden change of topic. Then after a few seconds of silence she tried adding "exactly?!" , turning her head to where the incharge and the boy stood.

Jiae's eyes momentarily fell on the rack of test tubes beside Haechan's hand which were in a risky position, right at the edge of the table, "Watch your hand, don't break them on the first day for fucks sake," she muttered to him, brusquely.

His focus shifted back to her, his scowl diffusing into a look of incredulity, "I...I didn't even do anything—?!"

"God just be careful it's not that deep!" She retaliated, hissing at him.

There they went off again. The student who formerly asked the question tugged on their teacher again, who surprisingly, just chuckled.

"They'll be fine, trust me,"

"Okay but I doubt your lab will be-"

"Sungchan. Go back to your place."

The lab incharge slapped the file on to the wooden table making a sharp clap sound that made some of the student flinch or wince- but it definitely got them to pay attention.

"I don't think I need to go over the lab rules and etiquette with you third year disappointments. Now, to prevent apparatus clash when you're using it, for this semester you're paired with someone from the other major per table. That should be enough space to not break anything. Hope that's clear for you brain lacking lot,"

He glanced around, the frown on his face was almost starting to look permanent as the group of thirty students continued to remain silent.

"Did I make myself clear?!"

"Yes sir!"

Jiae often wondered why their lab incharge had such an insufferable temper and it felt as if he had transported his time at the military to the lab. But she didn't really have time to question all that, she had work to get done with.

Jiae had been running around the entire ward the whole evening. She was on third year yet her professors were stubbornly insistent that she watch them with their practical work because she was their "brightest student"

Or might have something to do with the fact that both her parents are alumnis and friends with the entire medical team here now. Her father being known as a legendary surgeon forced on a lot of pressure on her.

So the term brightest student was just an excuse to make her do unpaid labour.

She looked over to the clock and it was near 6. A sigh of relief left her lips. She still had time to go home, rest and then study.
