Different struggles, one roof

Jiae was taking the long way route home cause she thought maybe a walk would relieve her from her inner turmoil. But all it did was exhaust her legs while her mind still ate her alive. As she was passing by the basket ball court when she noticed a certain brunette still bouncing his ball around the court.

For a second she had to stop and wonder why he was still here. Haechan was still in his basket ball uniform which meant he had been here the entire time since their team training which was at 5 pm.

It was 10 pm now.

It worried her a tiny little bit. He hadn't attended classes for two days and showed up at the lab today being oddly quiet. Silent Haechan would be an absolute blessing any other time but she was counting on him to distract her, even if it meant annoying her out of her mind. The fact that he was being abnormally quiet made her almost forget her own thoughts.

She even broke a beaker to get his attention but he simply cleaned it up and told her to be careful. Now that confirmed just how odd this was. Biggest issue was she didn't know if she'd be overstepping by asking anything. After all, his personal life was none of her business.

Yeah I should mind my own damn business.

But right when she was about to turn around and leave, she suddenly had that one eerie feeling crawl back on her. Abruptly turning around, she found nothing behind her though she could swear she saw something. She could swear she felt eyes on her. Her eyes moved back to the figure inside the court, contemplating if she should intrude his clearly personal 'me time'. After debating a little longer, she bit down her self respect and walked in cause potentially getting kidnapped was not something to prefer over a cranky Haechan.

She entered the court, watching him continue his training with intense passion. Sweat dripped down his chin yet he showed no signs of discomfort or intention of stopping - so immersed in training that he hadn't even noticed her as she leaned against one of the pillars.

"Why are you still here?" She quietly voiced midst the silence of the night. The only sound of his ball hitting the floor immediately stopped. His head shot at her direction and his straight face turned into one of pure annoyance.

"Practicing clearly, what else?"

"Training ended at 7, Haechan," Jiae crossed her arms over her chest.

"And? We have a match coming up soon and I felt out of it," he deadpanned and turned back around to be besties with the bright orange ball.

"Yeah no- you're clearly overworking yourself,"

"Why do you suddenly care? Shouldn't you be going home or something?" He snapped, his patience running thin with the sudden interrogation when his mind was already a mess.

Well, she did see that coming sooner or later.

"I uh- just don't feel very safe. Plus I'll need to bring the key card out again for you to enter the building so..." she didn't know how to put it really. She looked up at him to see him now looking at her with a much more relaxed expression.

"Alright, you should've just said that," he replied plainly and tossed the ball on to the net of ten other balls. It was starting to really bother her how he was being. He wasn't bickering, throwing snarky or sarcastically flirty remarks. It felt like an itch in a spot she couldn't reach.

"Let's go," he monotoned, already waking before her. Jiae scrunched her features in disgust, eyeing him up and down, "Aren't you gonna shower?"

"At the dorm," he concisely replied as the girl scurried to keep up with his steps, "Why not here? You're so weird," she muttered, trying to sound as cutthroat as usual as she took a glimpse at him.
