5 years agoJiae was going to be late to work. The owner would understand but the girl took a lot of pride in being punctual hated being late.
Her feet dashed across the rather quiet afternoon streets as she kept darting her eyes back down to her wristwatch whenever she could. She got detention as the class caption, because of a certain classmate hers. Now, she was running late to her part time job.
The autumn leaves rustled underneath her feet and the breeze blew stronger than usual due to the force she was using to leap herself ahead. With one sharp turn around the corner of the streets, she finally reached the small wooden cottage like store that was practically stuck against the corner of the dead end of the streets.
She swung the door open with a little ring of the bell and her eyes immediately landed on the elderly woman who chuckled at her panting entrance. Jiae sheepishly smiled at the older woman as she went around the counter and plopped her bag in a corner underneath the cash counter.
"I'm really sorry I just got stuck in detention!" She quipped, hurrying to grab her blue apron from the hanger near the counter. The woman just heartily laughed in response, "It's fine dear. I understand,"
Jiae finished tying her apron into a neat knot and that's when her eyebrows furrowed in confusion to see she was the only one here for work.
"Where's Beomgyu?" She blurted out to the owner who gave her a knowing smile with a little smirk.
"Oh- he said he won't be coming today ~"
Her face evidently fell even if she tried to hide it. "Oh," she gloomily replied and at that exact moment the bell rang and a chestnut haired boy entered the shop. He was already in his blue apron and was moving a crate of drinks a bit farther away from the two women.
Jiae's mouth fell agape and shot a look at the older who was busy stifling her laugh, "I'm starting to question if you come to work just for him,"
She teenage girl turned tomato red in embarrassment.
"I don't! We see eachother all the time anyway! Why would I?!" She defensively exclaimed and busied herself with arranging the counter. But she froze when she felt a hand on her shoulder as the elderly woman leaned closer to her ear, "Just shoot you shot," she whispered teasingly.
"He's just a good friend!" She shrugged the woman off as she laughed at how she turned even redder.
"Whatever you say~" she sing-songed and walked inside, to the kitchen. Jiae took a minute to compose herself and her eyes took her to the boy in question, who met eyes with her and brightly smiled, waving his hands at her.
She beamed and waved back. Choi Beomgyu. The guy she randomly met on seventh grade and adopted into their friend group.

"Jiae! That's foul!" Beomgyu complained as the jenga blocks came tousling down at his turn.
"Bami stop whining! I won fair and square," the raven head stuck her tongue out making him fold his arms over eachother and roll his eyes at her. It was obvious she did cheat; not once but twice, by holding on to other blocks when pulling her ones out. But he didn't complain nonetheless, eventually giving up against the stubborn girl.
