Jiae woke up the next day with a booming headache which stayed with her throughout most of the day. She was glad two of their professors were absent that day. The girl had no energy to deal with that many lessons.
The raven head got stares, she heard whispers, even laughs. Some actually talking highly of her. But she couldn't get herself to give a fuck. Maybe because was used to it now after last time- which was definitely much more humiliating than this. She dragged herself through classes like a lifeless doll functioning herself on autopilot. Her eye bags deep though she did sleep, lips slightly dry from how she forgot meals were even a thing.
The worst part about all this was, she couldn't get herself to overwork either. That one thing she could always do to run away from her problems yet now every time she tried to focus on something the thought of a mop of brown hair disturbed her mind.
Somehow, in between her working at the ward and following around a professor, she ran into Seolha and was currently being dragged by Heesung to visit his house. She would've refused but she didn't have the strength in her to actually make something to eat later on, neither the energy to interact with anyone at the cafeteria. Given how famished she was, a free lunch didn't sound too bad at that point. Also because the puppy eyes the boy had given her had melted her immediately.
The boy paused to look at her as they waited at the gate of the hospital, for Seolha to bring her car over.
"Noona?"
"Hmm?" She replied absentmindedly.
She felt a tug on her hand and turned over to move her eyes down to the boy who signalled her to kneel to his level. The raven head knitted her brows with a head tilt but did as the boy wished.
Suddenly two small palms enveloped her cheeks. "Are you sad? Don't be sad,"
The little boy reached over and kissed her nose. For the first time in the entire day- no, days, a small smile creeped up on her lips.
"I'm not sad bab-"
Her smile dropped again. Everything reminded her of him.
Fuck
She sweared internally but thankfully before the boy could start to notice her not smiling again, the blue Hyundai accent pulled up on the drive way.
"Let's go home shall we Sungie?"
The boy happily skipped into the car, clapping like a seal, making the girl smile again as she boarded the car in the shotgun seat beside Seolha.
"His father probably won't be home at this hour but sir did tell me to thank you. He says he'd like to meet you some day,"
Seolha enthusiastically spoke and the woman was so radiant that it rubbed onto Jiae. Getting out of the university premises itself, felt like utter bliss. A breath of fresh air.
The drive wasn't too long neither too short. She was glad the woman offered her to sleep, seeing her miserable state, rather than offer small talk. What she wasn't expecting, the house- mansion they arrived at. The entrance had a large metal black gate, guards in the stations on either sides of it.
The gates opened as soon as Seolha beamed a smile at the guards who greeted her with jolly grins. The entrance had a fountain, green lush but neatly kept bushes on either sides of the narrow pathway through a garden that spread out throughout the area.
Right in front of the fountain was the large marble coloured building which had elements of brown and grey.
"Is this....your house?" She asked in awe as she parked the car. The older woman laughed, "Oh no, it's Heesung's. As in, his father's,"
