The ER hadn't been this chaotic this entire year probably. Every single bed was filled and workers extras or were moving out already treated injuries to accommodate for more of the victims.
And that's how hours had just gonna by for all the staff without even knowing.
3:04 am
Jiae plopped down against the floor in a corner, heaving a deep breath as she took a look around ER number 3, that now had resting patients and the gurdians or family members of the victims around. The raven head closed her eyes shut, letting the back of her head bump on to the wall. She subconsciously took out her phone and contemplated calling Haechan but they probably were busy. The last thing she wanted was to be a bother at the wrong time. Thus she swallowed the nervous feeling down and stood up with a deep exasperation.
But then, the lights cut off, making Jiae frown.
.....again?
Whispers ensued around the room and she glanced around, her blood gradually running colder and when she caught a fair idea of where this was going. From the corner of her eyes she noticed this building was the only one that had been blacked out. Her eyes widened and almost right after that the dark silence was broken with loud gunshots at a distance. Screams were heard amongst the patients and the staff present immediately rushed to calm them down. Jiae tagged along, asking them to stay quiet.
This can't be fucking happening.
Her eyes caught sight of two young siblings, high schoolers most likely, the boy being the one she had stitched in place of Mark and the girl must be his sister is what she could tell. Her own eyes were dilated and breaths were heavy but she tried to conceal it as much as she could as she looked them in the eye, her heart beating faster than a scampering horse.
"I-it'll be fine, okay? Stay silent," she mumbled to them, raising both her eyebrows to reassure them. The girl was at the verge of tears while the brother held onto her.
Another set of gunshots fired. It was heard from the first floor; they were on the third.
They all collectively flinched but unlike Jiae, the two teens started shaking and crying. The raven head gulped at the scene, her nerves all over the place.
What the fuck is happening?
The girl scowled, feeling a pair of eyes on her. There were so many people jammed into one room that locating the source was difficult. But eventually, her eyes locked with a young girl with honey coloured hair and pretty light eyes. The girl immediately looked away, making her frown deeper. She definitely saw her somewhere. She was sure of it.
But the raven head didn't have time to think about that much much since the door burst open to reveal a grim Mark skimming over the entire room until his eyes stopped on her. Understanding the cue, she rushed over to him and he immediately pulled her to a corner by the arm.
"I'll have to go get our grandmother. Lock the ERs and tell everyone to be silent. Close the windows and stay away from them. The Sermanes just took the building hostage," he informed as he glanced around cautiously.
Her heart dropped into her stomach, "....what?"
She could tell Mark himself wasn't doing any better and probably ran up here from the way he was panting, "I don't know yet but I'll have to communicate with Renjun after I secure Jeong Daeri. One finger on her means a lot," he mumbled in a hurried tone and then spared a glance at Jiae, "Lock the doors too," he emphasised again and left immediately without letting her speak. Her throat ran dry and body seemed paralysed but she complied anyway. Her hands rushed to lock the doors, panning down all the locks as she told the other staff members to shut the windows.
