Chapter 20: Infiltrator

Almost everyone in the room looked at Roy Harper with shock, their jaws hung open in disbelief. Despite, calling and texting him several times since he had been back, Peter hadn't gotten so much as a hint that Roy even knew he was trying to contact him. Seeing him now, in a different outfit, his easy going expression hardened into a stern look, with a hint of anger underneath.

Peter couldn't help but be confused and concerned for his friend.

He knew two years would likely change people a lot, but he never expected this from Roy Harper.

However, nobody seemed as surprised to see him as Green Arrow himself. The archer's gaze softened and he immediately gave Roy a concerned look.

"Roy." He said with a bittersweet smile. "You look-"

Suddenly, he was cut off as Roy crossed the room and approached the league. "-replaceable." He said, his eyes locked challengingly with his former mentor.

"It's not like that." Green arrow insisted. "You told me you were going solo."

"So why waste time looking for a sub?" Roy replied angrily. "Can she even USE that bow?"

"Yes." Artemis replied, stepping forward with a challenging stare, almost getting in his face. "She can."

Seeing the slow escalation happening, Peter immediately sighed and stepped between the three archers.

"Alright. Everyone just take it easy." He said, looking over at Roy. "She's not your replacement. We've ALWAYS wanted you on the team." He shrugged. "Besides, it's not like we have a quota on archers."

Roy hesitated, a little surprised to see Peter, then he scoffed with a shake of the head. "Stay out of this, Pete."

"Maybe you would've made it onto the team, if you actually picked up your phone." Raven added with a blank stare, causing Roy to sigh in defeat.

With a shake of the head, Roy turned around back towards the elevator to leave in annoyance. However, Cyborg stepped forward to stop him.

"Look, clearly you didn't come here just to tell off your former mentor." The robotic titan said. "You came to us for a reason."

The archer stopped at that with a sigh and turned around, looking directly at Robin. "Yeah, the reason, is named Doctor Sterling Roquette."

Peter immediately noticed Robin's reaction as he tensed up at the mention of the name. His curiosity grew as Roy pulled up the data on his hologlove, so he took another step to get a closer look.

"Nanorobotics genius and claytronics expert at Royal University in Star City." Roy explained. "Vanished two weeks ago." he stated. "Abducted two weeks ago by the League of Shadows."

Tim's tense look immediately switched to excitement when he heard that amd his face lit up. "Whoa! You want us to rescue her from the Shadows?" he asked as he, Wally, and M'gann stepped forward eagerly.

Peter couldn't help but feel a little nervous at how eager his protige was to jump straight into battle now that he had super powers.

"Hardcore." Wally agreed, offering a fist to Robin. Which the Boy Wonder hiton top, then underneath, then on top again.

Roy shook his head at that. "I already rescued her." He explained, scolling through his files. "Only one problem." He said, before pulling out a small grey box which brought up a larger screen in the center of the room "The Shadows had already coerced her into building a weapon," he glanced up at the screen to make sure the data was up. "Doc calls it the Fog, comprised of millions of microscopic robots, nanotech infiltrators, capable of disintegrating anything in their path- concrete, steel, flesh, bone- but its true purpose isn't mere destruction. It's theft. The infiltrators eat and steal raw data from any computer system and deliver the stolen data to the Shadows."
