It was early one morning at Titans Tower. Peter was on the rooftop with Raven as the dark Titan went for her morning meditation after Mayday had gone to school. As busy as his to-do list often was, Peter still allowed himself this time with her to collect themselves for the day.
"I can see you've been needing this." Raven mused without opening her eyes.
Her comment caused Peter to open his eyes with an amused grin. "I didn't even say anything."
"You don't have to." She shrugged with a subtle hint of playfulness. "I can read you like a book."
Peter chuckled again with an amused shake of the head. "Oh yeah I know." He replied, then flashed a sly smirk. "And how is Mayday doing right now, by the way?" He teased.
Raven opened her eyes at that and looked at him with mild surprised. "How'd you know I was looking?"
Peter flashed a playful smirk and shrugged. "Cause I can read you like a book." He joked, using her own line ironically.
The dark Titan gave a huff in amusement then opened her eyes with a smirk. "Touché, I guess." She shrugged with a heavy sigh. "She's okay, she's in home room right now."
Peter nodded at that, "Well that's good." He sighed.
Then he paused for a moment and just looked at her. Even after all she had been through, her first instinct was still to close off and be stoic. However, Peter could see just how worried she truly was. The way, she subtly bit her lip and occasionally stared off into space. It was times like this that reminded him of the balancing act she still had to do to this day. While Trigon's influence was trapped in the backrooms, that didn't change the parts of herself that she had to keep balanced, it was simply easier since then. However, ever since Mayday dropped into their lives, there were many moments where he could see Raven's balance begin to waver, threatening to topple over entirely.
So, Peter reached out and gently took her by the hand with a compassionate smile. "Hey..." he said, bringing her attention back. "She's at school, and in an hour she'll still be at school." He assured. "She's okay."
Raven rolled her eyes at that with a sigh. "Are you about to tell me I should let myself relax?" She retorted.
Peter sheepishly rubbed the back of his head and shrugged. "Uh, I mean, yeah. You still need your balance too, not just her."
She sighed at that with a reluctant nod. "Well I couldn't do that even if I wanted to." She huffed. "A lot of the time I find myself checking on her without even thinking about it."
Peter nodded with a sympathetic smile. "Yeah, I had a feeling... But you know this isn't sustainable."
"I know." She replied sharply.
"I know we just started, but she's sixteen, we need to be able to trust her enough to be safe." He added.
"I know, alright!?" Raven snapped. "You think I don't know that? I just can't. Stop." She huffed. "You know as well as I do how unpredictable the world can be. Literally anything can happen, especially to you and me."
Peter sighed at that with a nod in understanding. "I know... I just... wanna make sure you're still taking care of you, you know?"
Hearing that made Raven's expression soften a little and she sighed with a nod. "I know... You're right." She replied. "I'm sorry, I just... I want to be ready."
Peter nodded at that. "And we will be." He assured.
After that, their conversation was interrupted, when Tim opened the door and poked his head outside.
"Hey, Pete!" He called out.
