A gust of wind. From a bookcase? My eyes lead down to the white marble floors scanning for an explanation. No scuffed floors but it seems improbable regardless.
"Something of interest?" Illumi pulls me out of my train of thought.
"Yeah, come here a sec. I think there's a gust of wind coming from here. Feels like the one in your heart, you know since it's empty and desolate," I comment.
"If you have to explain it, it's not funny," His unimpressed tone just adds to my point. He scans the bookcase for a bit studying every inch of it.
"Look at the books. This one's out of place," Hisoka intervenes. He points out one of the titles with a red spine with gold edging. The title reads The Stars Aligned.
"What exactly are you implying," I ask. It seems to fit the chronological order that the rest follows.
"Look closer. The ones next to it all have uniquely designed gold edging, while this one has a simpler straight-lined edging," He goes in to touch the book, but my body reacts before my mind can, pulling his hand away. They both stare at me confused, and justly so. Why would I not want him to touch it?
"Why so jumpy all of a sudden?" Hisoka's tone seems more worried than it should. Rightly so, because even I don't understand why I did that. "Love? Are you with us?"
"I uh... I'm not quite sure," Taking my hand off his, I step back a bit in an attempt to clear my head.
"Should we call it a day?" Illumi breaks the silence that has been slowly taking over.
"I uh, I- I think..." The words seem caught in my throat, and my mind clean of anything at all. Against my training, I can't be calm and collected as all I can hear is my heartbeat racing through my body. This place... it sends a shockwave of anxiety through me every time I visit. Yet I don't understand if it's the place or the person attached that makes me feel this way.
Hisoka takes matters into his own hands and pulls me into an embrace, his entire body encasing me. It silences every part of my racing mind within seconds. Okay. Breathe. That's all I need to do. Breathe and clear my mind. I'm safe with him. With both of them.
What if they aren't there? What then?
"There's a book I wanted to take back with us. It has records of everyone who has been born here, as well as those who died. It may help us understand more about how it ties into our time," Illumi mentions bringing the topic elsewhere.
Back in the main part of the library, he picks up a large thick book with a dark blue cover with gold accents. He puts it into my portal realm for now as we do a final sweep for anything that may be useful. Overall it seems like there isn't much threat to us, but with this place, looks are more than deceiving.
"We can come back with Athena so for now, we fall back and collect our thoughts from what we already know," As stoic as he may be, he is the more rational of the 3 of us. With a heavy mind, I portal us back into the living room, and immediately crash onto the sofa. My entire being feels drained, and not the way I would like it to be.
We got back just in time seeing that outside is pitch black. Not even a second after my body hits the couch, my phone rings. It's the kids.
"Please come collect your possessions, they're terrorizing my men," Kurro's defeated voice greets me over the phone.
"Yeah, that's my kin, no DNA needed," I chuckle opening a portal next to Illumi. Mere moments after Kurro comes in dragging all three by their shirts, all of them wearing proud smiles on their faces. "Whatever you did, I support you and I'm proud,"
