You were sitting cross-legged on the floor, concentrating on the intricate task of assembling a Lego ship. The pieces scattered around you formed a colorful chaos that somehow made perfect sense. Your fingers moved with practiced ease, snapping the bricks together, creating the vessel piece by piece. The rain pattered softly against the windows, a gentle background melody that added to the tranquility of the afternoon.
The front door creaked open, and you heard the sound of wet shoes squelching against the floor. You looked up just as a small, pitiful meow echoed through the hallway. Heeseung stood there, drenched, with water droplets dripping from his hoodie and pooling around his feet. His arms were wrapped protectively around something.
"Heeseung, what is that?" you asked, curiosity piqued. Heeseung's lips curved into a warm smile, and he slowly unwrapped his arms to reveal a tiny, shivering grey kitten.
"It was in front of the apartment, in the parking lot," he explained, his voice soft and concerned. "The poor thing was all wet and scared."
You gasped and immediately rushed to grab a towel. As you approached, you paused, taking in the sight of the kitten. It looked so fragile, its fur plastered to its tiny body, eyes wide and pleading. Gently, you wrapped the towel around it, carefully wiping away the water. The kitten let out a small, appreciative purr, which tugged at your heartstrings.
"You're safe now," you whispered, setting the kitten on the couch. It began to clean itself, its little tongue flicking out to smooth its damp fur.
Heeseung watched with a tender expression. "I couldn't just leave it there," he said, running a hand through his wet hair. "It looked so helpless."
You looked up at him, admiration shining in your eyes. "You did the right thing, Heeseung. That was really kind of you."
Heeseung gave you a bashful smile and disappeared down the hall to take a shower. You continued to watch the kitten, your heart melting at its cuteness. It tentatively stepped towards you, its tiny paws sinking into the couch cushions. Finally, it climbed onto your lap and curled up, its purring growing louder.
"Hey there, little one," you cooed, gently stroking its back. "You're going to be just fine."
A short while later, Heeseung returned, freshly showered and in dry clothes. He grinned at the sight of the kitten comfortably nestled in your lap. You gestured for him to sit down, and he complied, plopping down next to you. You picked up the towel and began to dry his hair, playfully ruffling it.
"Thank you for rescuing the kitten," you said, your voice warm with affection.
Heeseung shrugged modestly. "It was the least I could do."
The kitten looked up at Heeseung, its eyes filled with trust. Heeseung gently picked it up and began to play with it, his fingers lightly tapping its paws. "This little guy is so lucky," he remarked, a soft smile playing on his lips.
You watched them, your heart swelling with affection. "You're pretty lucky too, you know," you teased. "Not everyone would bring in a stray kitten and give it a home."
Heeseung laughed, a sound that made your heart flutter. "I guess so. But I couldn't resist. Look at this face."
Heeseung reached over to pick up your cat, Ddongsik, who had been watching the new arrival with mild curiosity. Ddongsik settled next to you, eyeing the kitten with a mix of suspicion and interest.
"Maybe we should keep the kitten," Heeseung suggested. "Ddongsik could use some company."You looked at Ddongsik, who seemed to be warming up to the idea of a new friend. "That's a great idea," you said, grinning. "And it looks like Ddongsik doesn't mind."
Heeseung chuckled. "Plus, I might finally have a cat who likes me more."
You laughed, giving him a playful nudge. "Ddongsik likes you just fine. But this little one might be a good addition."
Heeseung leaned in, resting his head on your shoulder. You continued to pet the kitten, feeling a sense of peace settle over you. "What should we name him?" Heeseung asked, his voice soft.
You thought for a moment, a mischievous smile forming on your lips. "How about Tayo?"
Heeseung groaned, but he couldn't hide his smile. "Really? You just want to tease me about that 'Hey Tayo' music video, don't you?"
You giggled. "Maybe a little. But it's a cute name, and he looks like a Tayo, don't you think?"
Heeseung rolled his eyes, but he was laughing. "Alright, Tayo it is. But if he starts singing that song, I'm blaming you."
You snorted with laughter. "Deal."
Heeseung kissed your temple, his arm wrapping around your shoulders. "You're impossible, you know that?"
"And you love me for it," you replied, leaning into his embrace.
Tayo, now comfortably settled in your lap, looked up at both of you with big, trusting eyes. Heeseung reached out and gently petted the kitten, his fingers brushing against yours.
"They're gonna be so happy," Heeseung said softly, his eyes meeting yours.
You smiled, feeling a deep sense of contentment. "Yes, they are."
And in that moment, with the rain tapping against the windows and your little family gathered on the couch, everything felt just right.
