Stella's POV:
"Doctor, avanuku kalyanam anadhu, avanga amma erandhadhu edhume nyabagam illa. What's this, doctor?" Joah asked.
(Doctor, he doesn't remember getting married or that his mother passed away. What's this, doctor?)
I was standing next to Joah and my father was seated next to Joe.
The doctor analysed the reports for some time.
"He might be having retrograde amnesia."
"Retrograde amnesia? What does that mean, doctor?" I asked.
"It means that he has forgotten the events which happened before the accident. Analysing everything, we are able to conclude that he has forgotten everything which happened in the last 2 years.", he said.
The world around me stopped after hearing those words from the doctor.
"Which means he won't recognise me?" I asked.
"Not only you. He won't recognise anybody whom he met in these four years."
"What? Then what about my daughter's life?" my dad asked.
"We'll try to figure it out, sir. Let him recover first. We can't pressurize him right now to remember everything. It's not good for his brain," the doctor said.
We came out of the doctor's room.
"Enna ma un vazhkai ipdi ayiduchu," my father said.
(Oh dear, how did your life turn out like this...)
"We'll see, pa. Let's wait," I said and hid my tears.
Then, we entered the room where Mathew was admitted.
He smiled looking at Joe.
"Vaa, da. Enna sonnaga doctor?" he asked.
(Come, da. What did the doctor say?)
"Nothing much. Unna nalla parthuka sonnaga."
(Nothing much. They asked us to take good care of you.)
"Seri, da. Aprm, oru request. Ennaku accident anadhu amma ku solladha, avanga bayandhuruvanga. Dubai la thaniya vazhndhutu irukanga, please solladha da."
(Okay, da. And one request, please don't tell mom about the accident. She'll get scared. She's living alone in Dubai.)
Joe looked at me with wide eyes.
"Enna da, solra? Amma epayo..."
(What are you saying, da? Mom passed away long ago...)
Before he could finish, my father stopped him.
"Thambi, konja veliya vanga," he said and escorted him out.
(Brother, come outside for a moment.)
"Sollunga, uncle."
(Tell me, uncle.)
"Thambi, ipo avaruku amma erandhadha solli tension aaka vendam. Doctor pressurize panna vendamnu sonnagala aprm edhuku. Neram varumbodhu sollikalam," he said.
(Son, no need to upset him now by saying his mother passed away. Didn't the doctor say not to pressurize him? We can tell him when the time is right.)
"Adhuvum seri dhan."
(That’s also right.)
He came back into the room. When Joe wasn't there, I was gazing at him.
I smiled slightly when he looked at me. Seeing my smile, he turned his face in disgust.
After Joe entered the room, he became normal.
"Sollu, da. Ennachu amma ku?" he asked.
(Tell me, da. What happened to mom?)
"Onnum illa. Naan solla maten da amma kita unnaku ipdi aanadhu."
(Nothing. I won't tell mom about your condition.)
"Seri, da. Thanks rombo."
(Okay, da. Thanks a lot.)
"Anni, neenga kelambunga, naan inga iruken," Joe said.
(Anni [sister-in-law], you can leave, I’ll stay here.)
