Mathew's POV:

I was standing in front of the big apartment where she lived. I clenched my fists, nervous about facing her again.

"Inga paaru, da. You are only gonna apologize to her and come back. Puriyudha? Nothing else," Joe warned me.
("Look here, da. You're only going to apologize and come back. Understand? Nothing else.")

I nodded.

Joe led me to Stella’s apartment.

Inside, Stella was sitting on the couch with Raghu, chatting casually about their day.

"Hi, Stella," Joe interrupted.

"Hi da. Enna dhideernu vandhu iruka. Vaa, ukkaru."
("Hi! Why have you come all of a sudden? Come, sit down.")

There was warmth and ease in the air until I walked in.

She froze, her eyes widened in shock. She didn’t expect to see me again. A flood of emotions hit her all at once, pain, anger, confusion.

"Mathew…" she whispered.

I stepped forward, my voice thick with regret.

"Stella, I'm sorry. Ennaku accident ku munnadi nadandha ellame nyabagam vandhuruchu. Accident aaguradhuku munnadi, I wanted to propose to you and start a new life with you. But the accident… it took everything from me, including you."
("Stella, I'm sorry. I remembered everything that happened before the accident. Before it happened, I wanted to propose and start a new life with you.")

She stared at me, her mind reeling. Memories of our past, the torment and the pain, came rushing back. Tears welled in her eyes, though she didn’t know if it was sorrow for what could’ve been or relief that it was all behind her.

"Mathew…" she said, visibly uncomfortable.

"Stella, idhellam vidu. Let's start, fresh. Ellame marandhuru, namma new life start pannalam. Let's get married, once again.", I said.

("Forget all this. Let’s start anew. Let’s forget everything and start a new life together.")

Stella’s eyes widened in shock.

Raghu, sensing her distress, stepped in, which boiled my blood. He wasn’t about to let me upset her again.

"Mathew, I think it’s time for you to leave. Stella doesn’t need this," he said sternly.

Desperate, I stood my ground.

"Please, just listen to me! I know naan pannadhu thappu dhan… but I want to make it right. I need to make it right!"
("I know what I did was wrong… but I want to fix it. I need to.")

Stella’s heart ached, but deep down, she knew, the man standing before her was her past. A past she had worked so hard to move on from.

Overwhelmed, she got up and rushed to her bedroom, locking the door behind her.

I followed and started banging on the door.

"I can’t… I just can’t," I heard her voice from inside.

I turned back to Raghu, my face pale with guilt and desperation. But Raghu had had enough. He stepped forward, grabbed me by the shirt, his voice laced with fury and protectiveness.

"Vitutu ponavan dhana da? Nee ipo edhuku vanda? Po apdiye!"
("You’re the one who left, right? Then why are you here now? Just leave!")

Shocked by his outburst, I tried to pull away, but he didn’t let go.

Joe stepped in.

"Raghu anna, sorry. Avan ipdi dhan. Neenga ukarunga, anna."
("Raghu anna, sorry. He's like this. Please, you sit down.")

He turned toward me.

"Un kita enna solli kutitu vandhen? Nee enna pannitu iruka? Thirumbi modhala irundhu arambikiriya?"
("What did I tell you before bringing you here? And what have you done? Are you starting from the beginning again?")

"I’m trying to make things right!" I said, heart heavy.

"You had your chance, Mathew. You walked away from her. She’s finally happy now, and I won’t let you ruin that. Leave her alone. Or so help me, you’ll regret it," Raghu snapped.

The tension in the room was unbearable.

I knew, deep down, I had lost.

I stepped back, defeated.

The truth settled in: Stella was no longer mine to save. She was no longer mine at all.

"I just wanted to say I’m sorry… I never meant to hurt her," I said, quietly.

Raghu's eyes narrowed, but his voice softened slightly.

"It’s too late for apologies. She’s moved on and you need to do the same."

I nodded slowly, my heart sinking. I cast one last glance at the bedroom door. I knew she was behind it but also knew I had lost her, forever.

Without another word, I turned and walked out of the apartment… leaving the life I could’ve had behind.

Stella’s POV:

Inside the bedroom, I sat leaning against the door, tears streaming down my face.

He’s asking me to marry him, again.
How is that even possible?

Am I a slave to his moods?
If he says let’s get married, I have to.
If he says let’s get divorced, I must obey?

What does he even think of me?

Yes… I did love him. I tried my best to change him with my love.
But nothing worked.

That Stella, the one who loved Mathew wholeheartedly, died months after our divorce.

I’m not her anymore.

I'm strong now.
And I would never make such foolish decisions again.

The confrontation brought back so much pain…
But Raghu was right.

Mathew is my past.
And I can't, won't, let him back into my life.

"Stella? You okay?" I heard Raghu’s voice gently call, along with a knock on the door.

I wiped my tears, took a deep breath, and composed myself. After a moment, I opened the door. Raghu stood there with concern written all over his face. He gently wrapped his arms around me, holding me close, and I finally felt safe.

"Thank you, Raghu," I said.

"You don’t have to thank me. I just want you to be happy."

And for the first time in a long while, I knew that I have someone by my side who truly sees me for who I am. Mathew may have been a part of my past, but my future is mine to define, with or without him.
